Hi All,

My husband and I are due to stay two nights at the Delta Ottawa but from some of the reviews it appears not to be such a great spot.

Could anyone advise us whether to go ahead and stay here or not,

We'd like somewhere fairly central and safe but clean and comfortable.

Thanks so much

I think that you will get better advice if you submit one post outlining your proposed trip. Not easy to advise you based on all the separate posts.

The Delta is a good hotel in a good location. It is in the business district rather than the entertainment/nightlife district, so it will be quiet at night. But central Ottawa is small enough that the two districts are 15 minutes apart walking.

Hi IrishLadyIrl,

If you look at a map of the city of Ottawa, the "center" is considered anything within 5 to 8 blocks anywhich way from Parliament Hill. So everything is pretty close by. We really are a very small city. LOL

The Delta is a fine hotel, it is at the western edge of the "centre". You'll be about 1-1/2 blocks from Sparks Street Mall, about 6 blocks from Parliament Hill, 8 Blocks from Elgin Street, and 10 or so Blocks to the Byward Market.

The more expensive hotels tend to be closer to Parliament Hill, in particular hotels that look out on the Rideau Canal (The Westin, Chateau Laurier, etc). Apartment style hotels such as the Delta tend to be in amongst the office buildings.

Another good option is Albert at Bay... they may be somewhat higher rated or more expensive, I'm not sure... they are similar to the Delta and about 1/2 block west again.

Cheers!

TO SENIOR65 - I am sorry but I have to respectfully disagree with your comments to IrishLady. She has followed the format of the forums, correctly posting relative questions in the Ottawa, Kingston and Huntsville categories. IMO there is no way she should be asking all these questions together, they are indeed seperate destinations. And as to your suggestion that she post her entire itinerary, well that is ridiculous... for all we know she might be travelling the entire extent of our fair country from one coast to the other!

As far as hotels go, the delata is pretty average, not great but not bad. Colleauges have stayed there and it is a "generic delta" However, I usually find this end of downtown to be a bit out of the way. It is literally a ghost town after about 6-7pm. Not dangerous, just deserted. There is very little in the way of nightlife, restaurants, sites at this end. Sparks street which is closest tends to get deserted by around 7 pm as well. My recomendation would be to stay more central i.e. lord elgin, chateau laurier, westin, marriot, les suites, etc. all are much closer to entertainement ands sites.

Wine-4-2, I understand what you are saying. However IrishLady was asking in the Kingston and Deerhurst posts whether she should bother going to those locations. Without knowing her proposed itinerary it is difficult to make an alternative suggestion. I suppose if she is looking for just an opinion and nothing else then the separate posts are ok.

Thank you all for your responses which we'll take on board.

Maybe it's not a bad idea to give our full itiniery which I've been given two options from travel agent so would appreciate your advise on maybe which one to go for - Had been veering towards option 2( omitting Kingston but not too sure now following comments which advise its a lovely spot) so here is the itiniery options:-

Option 1 - Toronto staying Westin Hotel 4 nights.

Collect car drive to Huntsville staying 2 nights Deerhurst Resort.

Then drive to Ottawa staying 2 nights at Delta Ottawa,

Drive to Montreal staying 2 nights at Doubletree POlaza.

Then drive to Kingston staying 2 nights at Holiday Inn Lakefront.

Back to Toronto for one night at Westin Htl -return car at Airport.

Option 2 is same Itiniery but staying an extra night (3 nights) from huntsville-Ottawa-Montreal, less driving as Kingston is omitted and we'd have to fly from Montreal-Toronto-Shannon after giving car back at Montreal as it wouldn't be needed once we arrive at Montreal.

So these are our options.

There is a price reduction just of € 80 between the two .

We'd really appreciate which in your opinion we'd be better off doing -Obviously we don't want to just be continually driving but still want to make the most of this hopefully wonderful trip to your beautiful country.

Thanks so much .

Personally, I would skip Kingston. Kingston is a very nice relatively small town. However, given the length of your stay I would think you would be better served with an extra day in the other places, especially in Montreal, (maybe even see if you can make it an extra 2 days in Montreal?) as there is so much to see and do in montreal. And on, top as you said it elimates about 5 hour drive from montreal to toronto.

I second flying out of montreal and spending some extra time there. Maybe add one day in Montreal and another one at the Resort or Ottawa.

Bring your insect repellant for Huntsville.
