Any ideas of things to do??? |
|
The Congress Centre is right near the airport/industrial area. There's not really anything close by for good shopping, although there are a lot of restaurants around. I suggest either taking the bus or driving into the city, finding a good parking spot for the day, and touring around downtown. Click on "things to do" in this forum for some ideas. Other posters could tell you the information on how to get downtown by transit, or where to find good parking.

I'd suggest that your best bet for something to fill that anime bordom would be to drop her off with her buddies, and then get back to the Hwy 401 (our major east west highway in Ontario). Congress Centre is quite close to the highway. There's 2 excellent shopping malls within about 20 minutes ride. South on Hwy 27 will take you toward Sherway Gardens out in Etobicoke (the next suburb east of Mississauga) or a little further east. East on Hwy 401 will take you to Yorkdale, the pioneer of indoor malls in Canada, and still an outstanding and huge mall. Both of these places have all the chain stores you'd ever want, both have squat 'n' grab food courts and/or sit down restaurants, Yorkdale even has a Silver City theatre for movies (not sure about Sherway, I don't get out there much). Google map the address for the congress centre, and then using their "nearby" feature, type in shopping malls; it will bring these up and you can use the "get directions" feature to map your route.

I think I'd cast my vote with Carobs. Take a bus to the subway and the subway downtown (travel time about an hour) and shop, be entertained and dine to your hearts' content. Have fun.

I wouldn't recommend taking a bus to the subway, it is very slow. To get downtown, drive to the Wilson subway station and take the subway downtown. Parking at Wilson Station costs 4 dollars on weekdays and is free on weekends. http://www.toronto.ca/ttc/parking.htm Alternatively, you could drive to the nearby Etobicoke North Train Station and take a Commuter Train downtown. Parking at the station is free. This is faster than the subway, but will cost more, and trains only run on Weekdays.

Or you can just drive to Yorkdale, which is free parking all day, and hop on the subway downtown. Dependin gon traffic it would only be about a 20 minute drive or so. If you have a whole day to kill you can also check out Vaughan Mills. It's a brand spankin new mall that is located just north of Toronto in Vaughan. All you have to do is hop on the 401 east to the 400 north, and keep driving until you hit Bass Pro Mills Drive.
