Haven't done this as a tourist, but viewing from a float plane can be a whole different perspective on the landscape. I'd prefer to do an eco tour by boat. September is a good time for bear viewing as the fish are going up-river so the bears are at the mouth of the river feeding.

Before we get to Campbell River, we first go to Yellowstone National Park, Banff, Jasper. From there we drive towards Vancouver. So we probably gonna see some wildlife "from the ground". Last year we were in CR in September we drove to Telegraph Cove to do the whale watch tour which was fantastic.

Took a float plane trip in Nootka Sound a couple of weeks ago,it was awesome and worth every penny.I have been there regularily by boat,but by air is a whole new experiance

Considering your trip then, I think you'd enjoy the float plane tour. Not sure of their route, but the inside passage is amazing to see by air with all the Islands, rapids, boats, lakes and what-have-you. Also, if they include a fly by the Comox glacier would also be worth seeing by air. It's like Google Earth live!

Thanks Islandrockin and IslandWest for answering. We spend a couple of days in CR with friends and if the weather is nice (no rain) we're gonna try the float plane. Looking at reviews from Quadra Island, that would make an alternative too.
