Might be flying from birmingham later this year - is the airport easy to navigate your way round and what is the public transport like getting their -specifically coaches from London

National Express (www.nationalexpress.com)run coaches daily to International - takes between 3 & 5 hours, but allow some extra time before your due to board as while coach travel is better these days compared to a couple of years back, timetables remain unreliable. Food at International is on a par with that served at Heathrow so if you'll be there a while you may want to take something of your own.

The coaches drop off the at front of the airport - a few hundred yards walk for check-in.

Driving around the airport is 'okay'. All the parking is some walk from the airport itself though - I'd be inclined to go with the coach option and save the hassle.

or you can take the train to Birmingham International and get the free air-rail link to the airport. This takes just 2 mins and is very easy

I only live 23 miles away from BHX but try to avoid the place whenever possible, they could not organise a P up in a brewery...

train to birmingham international is best, however you may find tickets on the main direct route (virgin trains) very expensive. an alternative, much more pleasant and much cheaper route (though much slower) would be starting at marylebone and getting to birmingham int via the very reliable chiltern railways

Chiltern railways may well be very reliable and pleasant, but they DON'T run services to Birmingham International!

chiltern would get you 90% of the way there (marylebone to leamington spa) before changing onto crosscountry (leamington spa to birmingham int - 20 mins).

summary:

chiltern then crosscountry

london marylebone to leamington spa ,changing for leamington spa to birmingham int

duration: 2:20

min cost: £18 return

versus

virgin

direct service london euston - birmingham int

duration: 1:20

min cost: £39

hope that is enough detail for you. apologies for not being clearer previosuly. any more info required, i suggest you check the national rail site.

^^jefsoo1, I'm surprised by your comments. I fly from BHX every month and think it's the best airport in the UK. I live around 17 miles away and from leaving my front door to grabbing a coffee in the departure lounge it regularly takes me less than 35 minutes. Over the last three years travelling through BHX I have never waited more than 5 minutes to pass through security or immigration. Baggage can take 10-15 minutes to come through but this is still an age quicker than any other UK airport I have used recently. I would always choose Birmingham over any other UK airport.

I have to agree. I wasnt sure what was meant by that comment and is another on these forums that blast something without going into detail.

From my own personal experience I have never ever had a problem at Birmingham Airport, which cannot be said of other places that are renowned for losing luggage.
