I'd have to put Restaurant Bacon, Blvd. Bacon in Cap d'Antibes as my # 1. Yes it's expensive, but their bouillabaise is simply splendid - and the atmosphere, while somewhat formal, always makes the eating experience a special occasion.

probably not in the same league as the restos you mention but we have had nice meals at Tire Bouchon? in the corner of the Square and at Cote l'Os on the right 1 street before you get to the square.

Any more recommendations for 'tourist' restaurants (ie. not mega bucks!) in Antibes?

Not quite as grand as some of the above but Cafe de Chineurs near the Gateway to Port Vauban/ IYCA I have generally found very tasty. Service sometimes a bit hit and miss, but a good budget meal favoured by French an "Turismo" alike. Pretty informal. The Omlette Complet is altogether in a class of its own. She who knows best says its because its probably heated in lard. Kiss your arteries good bye but try it!

NiceLife I know you rate cafe des chineurs, I've looked at the menu a couple of times but couldnt pick any thing I really fancied

I guess we all have different tastes (otherwise 90% of restaurants would go out of business!)

(How different? I'll make a confession - personally I can't stand any English food. English roast beef dinner appalls me, hate leg of lamb , would rather cut off my arm than eat yorkshire pudding... yet many people dote on the stuff. Not much on seafood either but I see them queueing up for it, shovelling down those oysters, picking through the sea urchins, whatever. Vive la difference!)

Im a little suprised as Chineurs however has quite a wide range of choice, but it might be a personal thing.

In my opinion the top 5 restaurants are

Le Figuier de Saint Esprit..was La Jarre, very classy, great food and service, rumour has it that they are aiming for a Michelin star.

My favourite for a summer lunch in the courtyard is the Auberge Provencal, great seafood.

Michaelangelos for an evening in the winter months, inside...dining outside in the summer is on plasic chairs and tables, but still good although a little pricey.

The Vieux Murs on the terrace for lunch, lovely setting.

Le Jardin has a lovely courtyard, good service and ambiance, but food is average, in my opinion.

But if you're here in the summer on holiday then any of the dozens of outdoor restaurants in the Old Town are all great, It's fun to sit in one of the restaurants in the Marche Provencal or Place Nationale.

For morning coffee the 3 cafes at the bottom of Rue Clemanceau are great.

There are so many reataurants in town that you should just wonder around and try them all, and then maybe get back to this thread with your fav's

I would agree with firstladybush that all the restaurants we visited in the old town were good quality but that the food in Le Jardin was not as good as Le Cafe Jardin which also has a nice courtyard. and Sara the top 5 I listed were all good value for money particularly the fixed price menu (3 courses for 15/19 euro) at Le Village. I too looked at the menu at Cafe de Chineurs and found nothing to invite me to step inside. We also ate at 3 of the restaurants on Rue Dr Dauthville in Juan les Pins and found them all to be of inferior quality to Antibes.

Thanks for that Russ, it was interesting to know the food isnt as good In Juan les Pins! we have always eaten in Antibes but this year we nearly went to JLP to eat one night but changed our minds!

Don't worry I'm sure you will find some good restaurants there are so many in JLP. The apartment we were in had a few recomendations, one was 'the Parrot' which is next to the jardin Pinide also near Rue Dr Dauthville, we did'nt try it but others said it was good. You could also get the road train from JLP to Antibes old town which runs all day until around 11.30. Their is also a bar oposite the casino which is great for a drink and to watch the luxury cars come and go.
