Tomorrow is our last day (of 10 total) in Barcelona and we had planned to visit Montserrat , but the owner of our B&B has advised us that it is "very touristy" and not worth a visit. Would people please weigh in on this? We've already been to Sitges for Carnaval, and to Figueres and Girona (I tell you this in case you were going to suggest we visit one of these places instead.)

The sooner the better if you can because it's 7pm here and we'd be starting out tomorrow morning. Thanks!

Of course Montserrat is worth a visit. The scenery iswonderful. Tourists do go of course but probably more local than foreign. Barcelona is touristy, Sitges is touristy......

Thanks, Lynda. That's what I suspected, but I just wanted confirmation.

Jandango - I hope you will be posting a trip report upon your return. We will also be going to Barcelona for 10 days in about a month and I'd love you hear your experiences / suggestions. Thanks!

It's to late for your enquiry but hope it serves a purpose for other visitors in the future. I am not a relious person but found the spectical awe inspiring and definately worth a visit but allow all day especially if the weather is fine there is so much so see. I drove there from Salou and parked up at the free secure car park at the lower Monistrol station and took the train up.

You can get 1 of three tickets combos for the train that takes 15-20 minutes to get to the top. The cable car will wisk you up in 5 minutes if you dont mind dangling in mid air. You can drive up but no guarantee as to how far away from summit u will be parking although a small seaside type train collects people to save the step walk up. An finally there is a foot path all the way up. I took the st Joan funicular which is very steep but the views were worth it at the top. There are various walks at the top including one to the top of one of the pinicles.

My combo ticket for Train + both funiclulars and audio visul was €13.50 rtn
