Hi all,

I would like to give my partner as a birthday present a weekend on a cottage in Finland (probably in December).

We live in London and it's easy to fly to Helsinki, but I know nothing about Finland so I don't know which area would be better or where to look for this.. anyone can suggest something?

Many thanks!!!

Have a look at this website:

http://www.nettimokki.com/home.php?sitelang=2

This is a site where private people offer cottages for rent.

You might try these: www.finnishlakesidecabins.com – UK-based specialist booking service for self-catering holiday cottages and log cabins in Finland.

http://www.lomarengas.fi/?Deptid=774 - highly reputable Finnish firm. Mostly rents to Finns, so they really know the business. The province Helsinki is in is called Uusimaa, so that's the button you need to click unless you want to go farther afield.

Maybe you could also consider some location e.g. in Lapland up in the north, at least if you want to have snow. There are good flight connection to Lapland over Helsinki (BA/Finnair).

Thanks for your advice, Lapland seems very nice, but for a weekend it's too expensive to get there, and takes too long.. that's why I thought about staying near Helsinki, where we could fly fast & cheap from London...

The main problem I find with the cabins is that there are always too big for two and also because this is for a present i want to be sure it's something special..

I'll keep looking the recommended webs.

Thanks to all

Hi

On December there propably wont be snow in Helsinki area. I mean if you are really looking for a winter experience it is propably better to go further up to Lapland area. You are pretty safe even with places like ruka or Jyväskylä which are not that far north considering the snow situation.

If you want it could be cheap to fly with ryanair( around 100€) to tampere from stansted and take a train (in the sleeping berth) to Lapland: Rovaniemi, Kolari(ylläs,levi) or Kuusamo(Ruka).

Try sites like visitfinland which is goverment based I believe or google Rovaniemi citys webpage and seek for travel information.

In your case I would go to Ylläs, Levi, Ruka which are ski resorts or to Rovaniemi the capital of Lapland where are all the main attractions.
