I am taking a cruise with a one-day stop in Malta in June. Instead of taking a ship's tour, I thought we could just find a great beach and hang out in the Med. I know in Mexico there are beach clubs where you can rent a chair/umbrella, there are waiters and drinks.

Does anyone have suggestions for similar places in Malta? I understand public transport is pretty decent, so taking taxis or buses is an option from the cruise port. Thanks!

Although there are beaches. Take my word for it Malta is no Mexico.

I don't know of any beach clubs with waiters etc though I am prepared to stand corrected.

There are not actually that many sandy beaches on the island.

I know of some cruise liner firms who did trips to Mellieha Bay. ..... no waiter service though.... and crowded.

Or to Westin Reef Club - good service of course but still busy and a ROCKY beach.

Malta has more culture than beaches.... why not chill out on another day (croatia ?) or Tunis

Hello

Malta is really worth getting off the boat for.

You can sit on a beach pretty much anywhere.

Head into Valletta for what I think is one of the greatest views that you will ever see (from the Upper Barracha Gardens) over looking the Grand Harbour.

You can have a great day in Valletta - the Malta Experience is worth seeing. Go to Fort St Elmo and visit the museum.

Sit and people watch in the cafe's off of Republic Street.

I was there last week and wish I could be again next.

I can honestly say if i was you and you think this is the only time you will ever go to malta, then i would definately go to popeyes village, me and my sister went to malta for a week and the only good part was that trip. It was amazing, you can see the full set of where the film was made and you have the oppurtunity to star in a short film which is alot of fun! Plus there is free wine tasting and a pool you can go in for free, you will have heaps of fun there! :)

I went to a beach called Golden Bay and it is beautiful!!

The beach is kept constantly clean and the best part is not many people know it exists so you can enjoy a day in the sun on this beach without feeling overcrowded.

Hi

Definitely not any beaches to speak of in Malta mostly quite rocky and the (one and only) decent stretch of beach is Paradise bay.

Good Hunting

Cant understand why people say there are no sandy beaches in Malta-there are loads!!!! Paradise bay, i would say, is one of the smallest but without doubt the prettiest. Mellieha is one af the largest and busiest with more facilities.Golden Sands has the new 5 star holiday resort, and next to it is Ghan Tuffeiha with its great waves for bodyboarding etc. Theres Ramla bay ,Armier, Little Armier,Pretty Bay- i could go on and on!! I think that in Malta the beaches are a little off the "beaten track",so you need to travel a little further than the resorts to find them.

Well as Scubapro said before: "Malta is no Mexico". I agree with this statement, Malta is totaly different. (I had been to Cozumel).

The only beach that matches your criteria is "Hola Beach" in Marfa.

Check out this link:

But it is much smaller that the beaches in Mexico. Many tourists do not know about this place.

There is also the Intercontinental Hotel Beach club in St.Georges Bay that is gorgeous.

I piece of advice, do not waste 1 day in Malta hanging on a beach as there are so many sight seeing attractions not to be missed.
