Husband and I will be Ireland for a 10-day

One of those days is our our 2nd wedding anniversary and wanted suggestions on a restaurant - and I see from an earlier, great post that Chart House might be the one. It's three weeks away...when should we make a reservation?

Also, we were really planning on packing casual clothes for our trip to make things easy - but I imagine that the nicer restaurants require a step up from jeans and a nice sweater (for a female). Does that sound about right?

I have recommended the Chart House in Dingle many times on this forum and will continue to do so. There wouldn't be any harm in making a reservation now if you choose to have your special dinner there. At least you could "tick" that one off your list. Let them know that it's a special occasion.

The dress code is quite relaxed there, they wouldn't turn you away if you're wearing jeans. But since it's a special night out you might be in the mood for dressing up a bit. Then again, the weather might be against you wearing high heels, the skimpy little black number and the diamond tiara! Wear whatever you're comfortable in.

Enjoy your anniversary dinner and have a lovely time!

The Charthouse is extremely popular so to avoid disappointment I would advise you to book now, especially if it is for a saturday night! There is no dress code as such but as the previous post suggests, it would be nice to go to a nice restaurant and dress up! If you don't manage to get a booking here, let us know and we can recommend another restaurant!

I'll second or third the Chart House.

By the way, whatever became of The Beginish?

We would be at the Chart House on a Tuesday night. Reservations still needed?

travelbeans, I would make a reservation, just to be sure to be sure (as you might say in Ireland). I hope you will have a wonderful meal and a memorable evening out. Let us know how you got on!

Yes I agree that you should make a reservation for dinner be it at any restaurant in Dingle.

Yes the Charthouse is a wonderful restaurant and the service is too. I would also suggust The Half Door.

The Halfdoor restaurant is 1st class and if you like seafood they have the best Seafood chowder in Ireland.

Their presentation is outstanding as is the service.

I highly recommend the Half Door restaurant on John Street.

Happy Anniversary!

To CorkZoro,

Sadly the Beginnish no longer exists, it too was a 1st class restaurant with a 1st class lady running it.

Yes Beginish was a great restaurant but the owners retired some time ago.

The other place is 'Out of the blue', which is an amazing fish restaurant just down by the harbour.

Definitely book ahead and i think it is closed Wednesdays, but it is fabulous. The only thing is that it only serves fish and seafood. I think it one seafood restaurant of the year.

Their website is http://www.outoftheblue.ie/

No special dress required.

If you are looking for an anniversary present for your husband you could get jewelry made by local jeweller Briand de Staic. He can engrave rings, pendants etc with words in Ogham (an ancient celtic alphabet), it is very simple and effective and you could have it ready for your arrival in Dingle. Failing that, get your husband a Munster rugby shirt.

Out of the Blue closes for Winter. Not sure when but just be aware of that. Also it doesn't open if there is no fish that day so a bit unreliable (thou lovely!). I would pick the Chart House or The Stonehouse (outside of the town though on Slea Hd,again check opening times).

The Beginish is now a Chinese restaurant!

Just seeing the date of your post now so probably too late for this post! How did you get on ?
