The only public transportation from Shannon to Ballybunion would be by bus from the Airport to Limerick, then to Tralee and then to BallyB and it takes about four and a half hours. You could bus it to Limerick, train it to Tralee (after many connections) and then bus it again but that would probably take longer.

Kerry Airport is much closer and a bus from there to Tralee and on to BallyB takes about 2 hours.

If you are coming from London you can fly direct to Kerry Airport (KIR) with Ryanair from Stansted and sometimes Luton.

I'd really hire a car - hire companies do give some good deals if you book in advance !!

Shannon is about 1hr 20mins - 1hr 40 mins depending on the traffic and about 70 miles give or take.

Kerry is much closer and I'd guess 40 mins is more that enough to drive it.

Stop off in Limerick for a few hours to acclimatise yourself... the town is packed with Limerick people in July!!

I'd hire a car. It's a very nice drive down the N69.

i'd agree with one of the previous posts - Fly into Kerry Airport with Ryanair - has all the same car hire companies but none of the q's.

Ballyb is great once the weather is fine, and if it isn't try Tralee of Killarney for things to do - have a look at www.holidaytralee.com and www.tobyworld.ie for some things to do for kids and adults.

Not sure if you have made your plans or not as of yet but Ryanair has one penny flights from Stansted to Kerry Airport for July. I just bought 5 to go to London for the day with some friends - cheaper than going to Dublin!
