I know this is my first post, but the latest review of the El Dorado (something about moldy shoes) has been chewing away at me. I am a Canadian, but see us as mostly transpart to our American friends. I thought the reiew was unfair and plain rude. My husband and I have travelled lots and I think it's easy to generalize groups of travellers, but to post it on the internet is just asking for trouble.

As for their review....It reminded me of a commercial that I saw recently, where a woman was in a nice restaurant and was telling the waiter what she wanted. It was not on the menu and it ended up resembling a McDonalds hamburger.

They wanted NO air conditioning? ok...but that is an unusual request. They couldn't speak proper english??? hmmm...you are in mexico??? perhaps a little research into culture? Milk wasn't perfect?

Come on. You want perfect quiet culture with ice cold milk and no air...STAY HOME.

BTW - I have not been to the El Dorado...going in September! Can't wait!

Hi

Welcome to Tripadvisor.

There is already a thread running on this topic which you must have overlooked:

tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowTopic-g240327-i395-k21…

Such bashing of nationalities is nothing new on TA and it will continue to be the case as long as they allow free speech.

I am not saying it is right or wrong but what I would say as I have said many times before is that you cannot label a whole country because of what one or two people do on holiday. People from all countries sometimes do things that annoy others and if this is the case you are better ignoring it if you can and get on with enjoying your holiday.

I am also quite shocked at this review. We are from the UK and have travelled to the Caribbean several times in the past and are going again this weekend.

I agree that there are lots of Americans holidaying in the Caribbean, but surely this person must realise that the Caribbean to Americans is like Europe to us Brits - nice and close (for most)!

Yes you do get loud laughter (I should hope so!) on holidays but it isn't always 'The Americans' that are enjoying themselves. Some of the most appalling behaviour I have seen on holidays has come from a variety of nationalities - including the Brits!!!

Some of the nicest, most fun people we have met on holidays have been American. Our holidays have been all the better through the people have met. I, for 1, am really looking forward to Mexico this weekend, and hopefully making some more American friends!

The rudest person I've ever met on vacation was a fellow Canadian, so I guess that must mean that all Canadians are rude... oh wait then that means I'm rude, well that can't be right. So I guess if I'm not rude then all Canadians are not rude, but then that means this lady wasn't rude.... generalizations don't work, plain and simple.

Funny review though. Seriously doubt that turning a/c on and off would cause mould to grow on your shoes. And after the 2nd day of room temp milk, maybe you should just get an omelette instead of cereal. How hard is it not to drink the room temp milk? Not very hard at all.

Oh and I speak English and can't always understand other people who speak English because their accents are so different from mine, so how can you expect someone who speaks a different langauge to understand everything??

Oh and they wanted the hotel to leave a note about the possibility of mould growing on your shoes... how about you leave a note for the maid requesting that she leave the a/c OFF? Problem solved.

As a Brit i found the review slagging off our US cousins an utter disgrace. I have been to 34 of the 50 U.S states and i have never had any problems with the local people, infact most of them are more open and helpfull then the Brits. Ive been to Mexico before and stayed in the Riu Jalisco in Puerto Vallarta,The hotel was 65% U.S and 30% canadian and i can say we had a great time with all the people we meet. And as for saying the people in Mexico dont speak English what does she expect them to speak greek !!!! Do what i did and go to a local class and try and learn the langauge, if the locals can see u making an effort they appreciate it and i allways found they are more helpfull. I may be useless at speaking a foreign langauge but at least i have a go.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who found the review inappropriate. :)

I read the EDR review and thought it was totally OTT, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'm still trying to workout why they did not want AC, when it's usually well up out list of must-haves.

Also the mouldy shoes? Would have thought it was her fault for switching the AC off and making the room hot and humid.

The anti-American rant was not very nice at all.

I'm sure we have all been to places where we have come across people who are loud, drunk and generally not to our liking for what ever reason. And this type of person or persons can be from anywhere.

Believe me, I've come across countless drunk Scots on my travels and have hoped that the earth would open and swallow them up. I've also come across drunk English, Welsh, Irish, American, Canadian, German, French, etc, etc,.

People on holiday like to have a good time and sometimes do get loud and drunk and a bit silly, it's just human nature.

I just feel that there may have been a lot more going on with this person, and that it all surfaced on holiday, culminating in this review.

Well that's my tuppence worth!!

Jude.
