Need help.

Will be staying at Hotel Metamorphis, what is the best way to get to the train station Praha Hlavni Nádraží? Will be leaving Prague to Berlin around 6am.

Thanks!

Call AAA taxi! Have just returned from Prague. BIG IMPORTANT THING: When you need a taxi, ask your hotel or restaurant to call a AAA taxi, and ONLY a AAA taxi. We took the first available taxi from the train station, and it cost us 453 Koruna. We were a little surprised, but not wanting to appear cheap (which we are NOT! We may be "poor," but we are not cheap and do not "economize" by cheating those who help us out of their own livelihood!), we tipped the driver 47 CZK, for an even 500. Later, exhausted, we took the first available taxi down from the big cathedral/castle on the hill, and the price was similarly steep. Since both of these taxis were on meters, we accepted the fact and swallowed the price. That afternoon, we took a river boat tour, and were the only two tourists with our guide. When we commented about the taxi price, she told us about AAA. Apparently that is the only taxi company that really follows the rules, and sets its meters at the right price (either 29 or 39 CZK, I can't recall which). The other companies set their meters at 99 CZK!! At least, that's what our tour guide said, and when we called for a AAA to take us back to the train station, it was less than 200 CZK. Good luck! And enjoy beautiful, beautiful Prague!

And read Franz Kafka's book 'Metamorphosis' before you go, in case you haven't already. Hopefully you will not meet the same fate as the poor guy in the book :)

Alternatively you could take tram 26 from Namesti Republiky. It's just two stops (4 mins).

Hang on - you wouldn't have much luck from the main station as the 0636 train to Berlin doesn't go from there, it goes from Holesovice station.

You can buy your tickets when you get there - there shouldn't be too much of a queue at that time of the morning. Should cost about 50 Euro each.

You can either get tram no. 26 to Strossmayerovo namesti and then the 12 to Holesovice (15 minutes)

or metro line B from Namesti Republiky, change at Florenc onto line C two stops to Holesovice. That takes 15 minutes as well.

No idea about taxi cost, but both the above options will cost you 26 Crowns.

Are you somehow alluding to Kafka's masterpiece or the shady characters that might be hanging around the station? :)

(don't worry - the shady characters won't touch you - especially not at that time :) )

It's getting a bit Kafka-esque, this thread...

Taxi should be about 170 CZK if you ring AAA.
