If I said there is absolutely no racism problem in Riga, it would be a lie. But the problem is not that big, as horror stories try to picture. True, there are cases when some people with different skin color have been attacked, but not so many.

There are places where you shouldn't go in Riga especially at night, "Maskachka", etc., afar for the centre. But there are places, where locals do not feel safe as well.

To be objective, I have to say that I've seen the case of two British girls atacking two Latvian girls in Weymouth, UK.

Well, the point is - be careful everywhere and you will be safe.

To be honest I'm still a little apprehensive but excited a the same time. I'm hoping everything goes smoothly. We're not the type to start problems (typical Canadians) so don't anticipate having any.

We do want to experience the Riga nightlife. Could you suggest two clubs for us to go to that are known to be good to tourists?

That sounds great. We'll be there from the Aug 8 - Aug 11th. Are you there around the same time?

As for the clubs, Essential is known as the biggest and best dance club, with world class dj's often coming over to spin. My favourite was always the much smaller Pulkvedis - but friends over there are saying the place has changed to worse - not sure in which way.

I am not a real expert of night clubs, but from my friends reviews I can say that Essential (although this one got some bad reviews on TripAdvisor before) is not bad, a few dance floors, good DJs, in the centre.

Do not go to Roxy in Old Town close to badly known Groks and to any of strip clubs in Old Riga.
