Where should we go for dinner in the Penn Quarter? |
|
Heading to DC in a couple of weeks w/ my hubby. I have heard that the Penn Quarter is a great place to go for dinner. We love seafood, steak, italian, mexican, tapas. Any suggestions for great restaurants in that area would be greatly apprciated. |

We loved Cafe Atlantico and Central Michel Richard in that area. You can book them both through Open Table too!

lots of great places there. Zaytinya is a fave for tapas

-La Tasca- Spanish Tapas -Zaytinya-Mediterranean Tapas/Small Plates -Zengo- Mexican/Asian Fusion/Small Plates -Cafe Atlantico-Latin -Acadiana- Southern/Low Country with a twist -Jaleo-Spanish Tapas -Zola-American Also when searching, the area includes Verizon Center and sometimes they include Chinatown and the Convention Center as the location

The place I have been the most down there is Clyde's, because I know exactly what I will get and it is always good. Not as trendy and unusual as most of the places people talk about, but a DC traditional place, though this location is fairly new. The same people that run the very popular Old Ebbitt Grill near the White House.

I don't think we can have a Penn Quarter/Gallery Place/Chinatown restaurant thread without mentioning Matchbox!!! It and Zaytinya are our absolute favorites over there.

My favorites in that neighborhood are Oya (sushi) and Rasika (Indian). If you're looking for seafood, check out Oceanaire (Metro Center), Hook (Georgetown) or DC Coast (McPherson Square), and for steak, check out BLT Steak (McPherson Square). Most restaurants can be booked through www.opentable.com. Oceanaire has more availability by calling, though.

I personally am not a Clydes person--it seems like such basic food that's overpriced. So, if you have a finiky eater, it might be good, but otherwise, I'd skip it. If you want tapas, choose Jaleo over La Tasca (chain--not as good IMHO). I'd be remiss if I didn't say to get the bacon-wrapped dates fritters! Yum! Matchbox is a good, hip place-brick oven pizza and sliders. (They offer other stuff too, but this is what they're known for).

Thank you everyone for your help. I am going to go to Zaytinya. Does Proof have a lounge area to sit at just to stop by for a glass of wine?
