hi,travellers!

i´m planning a trip to serengeti in july ,to see the migration(and not only the migration)

if possible,i´d like to know about:

1)is seronera area too far away so that it makes impossible to reach the animal masses,or is it just a question of staying one or two hours more inside the car to get to the western corridor or wherever the migration is.the option is to get lodging in western corridor

2)is it really relevant to choose an operator that uses 4x4 vs minibus.Do they really get off the tracks?

3)i´m looking for sth intermediate, not luxurious, not budget.i find there is a big jump between luxurious tented camps and basic camp sites,so i suppose i´ll have to resort to the classical serena or sopa lodge.

right?

4)i´ve been advised about ATR and ROY.what do you know about them?

thnks

July could be a hit or miss on the migration. All according to the weather; if it has been very dry then the animals will all be in the Mara in July with a few strays in the Serengeti. I would suggest that you are close to the first of July for this, not the end of July if this is what you are wanting to see. There are plenty of resident animals in the Serengeti and Tanzania when the migration moves on to the Mara. You will definitely want to be in the Western Corridor or in the North Central part of the Serengeti for the migration at this time of the year.

Hi

Seronera is about 90km from the western corridor, and it would normally take circa 2 hours game driving to there.

Mini bus verus 4x4, the mini bus'es are also 4x4

when its muddy because they are lower they cant do somme of the smaller tracks and are generally softer suspension.

Lodge and luxury tented camps, all accomodaation is hard to get :-)the best value luxury tented camps are probably Serengeti Savannah camps.

Ask whichever tour operator you use to give a itinerary using them.

Mid-July may be too late for the Western Corridor.

I just saw many many zebras near Lobo and Bologonja and they may be the spearhead with the wildebeests to follow.

Saw huge herds of wildebeests near Ikoma and north of Grumeti River heading North East. It looks a bit dry in the central Serengeti so I think the herds will probably run north quick.

Rain in the west may cause them to turn back into the corridor but I do not think so.

It appears Lobo Lodge will be good in July. Savannah Camp will probably stay at Makoma 2 just south of Seronera so check first.

Flycatcher Camp normally goes north and is affordable.
