Insects and/or any other creepy crawling problems? |
|
When and where are you going? If you are in towns, I don't think you'll have any problems. (Don't they have insects in Philly?) If you are in the bush, then there's a chance you might see some. However, Botswana has some of the most beautiful birds I've ever seen. If you are lucky enough to see a Lilac-breasted roller, then just think how it would survive without insects! Last November, I was lucky enough to be in a small camp in northen Botswana, when there was annual event of several million flying ants coming out of the ground for a spot of dating... Eating al fresco was not fun, until oneof our guides informed us that the local women usually collected this bounty to enhance the protein in their diet. I think you need to think of insects in a different light. Yes, some are pests; others are essential. Take some insect repellant and anti-malarials.

Sorry, city girl, but bugs are a reality in Botswana and part of Mother Nature's grand scheme. Naturally, the closer you get to nature the more bugs you're likely to encounter. Bugs are especially abundant during the "wet season," but are a presence year around. To make yourself less attractive to them, you can use insect repellent. We found the treated "buzz-off" clothing works well also. Welcome to Mother Nature's house.
