I travelled to Mali with my 9-yr old son and utilized the services of Mali Discovery Tours. We travelled from Bamako to Timbuktu with all the major stops in between (Segou, Djenne, Dogon country, Mopti) and had a wonderful experience thanks to this tour company. We contacted many companies but settled on Mali Discovery Tours, and happy we did: we were provided with a clean and safe LandCruiser (another company's vehicle had no seat belts!), a safe driver (important in Mali given the very narrow roads), and a knowledgeable and friendly guide that was fluent in English. They made all the hotel and site-seeing arrangements and were prefectly flexible and accommodating when we wanted to make changes to the itinerary in route. I highly recommed this tour company!

Can you give me the web address for Mali Discovery Tours, or a contact? I can't seem to find them on the internet.

Thank you!

I also traveled to Mali this summer and utilized the services of mali Discovery Tours. We where a group of 5 people. We rented a car, went to the Dogon Country and did the trip with the pinasse and everything was a complete mess!!! At the begining we just wanted to rent the car for 10 days, but we ended renting it for 19 because Mohamed (he chief of mali discovery tours) said to us that the train that we wanted to take had an accident, thus forced us to rent his car more days, after all we find out it was a lie, there wasn't any accident! In the Dogon Country we want to make 6 days, but we ended making 8 for the same reason. And now we've discovered that he didn't pay his personnel! We really didn't have a good time in Africa because of them, I highly recommend you look for another travel agency if you want to enjoy your trip!

I, too, had a bad experience when I traveled with Mali Discovery Tours. They are not honest about the logisitics of the trips, and I am very confident that I was over charged. They were very unorganized, and Mohamed, the chef d'agence, tried to proposition me sexually. I had a very bad experience. Be careful not to travel with them.

I am surprised that people have had bad experiences with Mali Discovery Tours, My friend and I contacted over 5 travel agencies and MDT had the best price for our itinerary. We traveled the second week of October, 2007. I really enjoyed the river pinasse from mopti to timbuktu...lying back and watching the villages pass us by, reading, and just enjoying the company of others - I never have time in my life to just relax without a tv or music or the noise of a city. The boat staff were very friendly and we had an amazing cook- imagine cooking three meals a day on a boat with two burners. Plus, all of the food was fresh- I was a bit surprised when live chickens were brought on the boat for consumption. I am an avid traveler and appreciate the flexability of tour companies- we made several changes along the way and it was never a problem. Mohamed, the director of the agency, was our guide for our adventure and was very professional, attentive, and provided us experiences we would never have had on our own. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND MALI DISCOVERY TOURS.

I think you are not talking about the same Mohammed.

Mohammed Tandina is the director of the agency and he's very arrogant and everybody in Mali knows that he's not honest making bussiness. Since our trip with them we have talked to many people who has been travelling with Mali Discovery Tours and the most of them are not happy with their trip. Beware because it's very important to choose a good agency to have fun with your trip, and with Mali Discovery tours definetly you will not enjoy the trip the way you should. And comparing the prices with other agencies is not that cheap. Contrast information please!

WE HARDLY NOT RECOMMEND MALI DISCOVERY TOURS!!!

I believe it is the same Mohamed Tandina and we did not have the same experience as you. I really enjoyed Mohamed and found him personable, kind, and accommidating. He even played uno with us in the evenings....

I travelled with Mali Discovery Tours and was ripped off from start to finish. Run by a crook called Mohammed Tandina who will generally lie about everything, take your money and not provide half of what you pay for. Watch out for the guides he provides too as they are usually not guides and will try and con you by telling you that they haven't been paid etc. Avoid them like the plague
