How do folks, can anyone help?

Have any of you flown to Mauritius with both of these airlines? If so which one would you say is the better?

We have used Air Mauritius many times in the past as they had more legroom, but now they all seem to be about the same, have never used Virgin, but the package we have been offered for next years there's not much between them.

So anyone had any experiance of them both?

Hi,

Flown Air Mauritius many times like yourself, and agree with you that seat pitch now on par with BA and VS. Have flown VS but to US a few times, not Mauritius. Thats because they were cheaper, as personally I find the cabin crew not that great. Some of them find customer care beneath them, and prefer to chat in the galley or reapply their makeup. Air Mauritius crews have been criticized on the Skytrax site and on here, but IME they are helpful and courteous. AM more liberal with drinks too; VS less so. IFE maybe VS wins, even with the new AVOD system on AMs new Airbus. We found the films on offer last time were not the ones advertised on AMs website, and we had problems with AVOD on outbound flight. VS has good amenity packs. AM used to have toothbrushes and razors in loos but didn't see any this time, though socks and shades provided.

VS cabin crew vs BA's has been discussed a lot on the Airlines forum, and the general consensus is the BA is better for service than VS. AM crew also win IME vs VS though by a lesser margin.

All airlines are making cut backs and service gets worse and prices increase annually. Thats the price we pay if we want to fly! Its annoying when you think how much better cattle class used to be!

Cheers,

Bronia

Hi,

I'm flying with BA on August 20th. I have flown to the US on a couple of occassions and the soft drinks/alcohol was free, is it the same when flying to Mauritius?

BA, Virgin, Air Mauritius and most European operators all provide complimentary alcohol and soft drinks. Its the US carriers and the charters in the UK that charge, the former to cut costs following 9/11. I like BA personally on transatlantic flights, and have used them to Mauritius a number of times and they were very good IME.

We flew with BA to Mauritius in 2006 and the crew were fantastic. Our plane was not full and we had 4 seats to ourselves, and my hubby has a large appetite and they had some spare meals so gave him another dinner, plus on overnight flight you could just help yourself to snacks and drinks from the galley. We tend to always fly with BA and they are really good with drinks etc.

Thanks bronia,

I guess it's down to food and IFE then, if they are all the same on legroom.

The last time we used BA to Mauritius was back in 1998, and I know the legroom was tight back then for me, thats why we have used AM ever since, have never had a problem with AM cabin crew, but like most people I find their meals a strange mix.

The thing I find the most frustrating at the moment is the pricing of the flights with the taxes etc, you find a flight and theres suddenly £300 extra added on. Why don't they give you price in full to start with ??? Or is it just me ?
