Hi,

We are currently planning a trip to Israel for the second week in Sep. We arrive in Tel Aviv where we will stay for one/two nights before going onto Jerusalem for another night. Then we would like to go south and spend a few days in Eilat before returning home.

For our stay in Eilat we would like to rent a beach bungalow. However, we are having difficult finding such accommodation on the internet. Our current edition of the Lonely Planet does not help.

Could anyone recommend a clean, safe and easy to access beach resort that provides beach bungalows/huts?

Many thanks,

EurOtrip2008

What are beach bungalows/huts? September is still very hot, do you look for huts without A/C?

Well huts (wooden chalets/bungalows) are what we are looking for on the beach (similar to the ones in Sinai, Egypt). It doesn't have to be in Eilat but on the beach in Israel is a must. They don't have to have en suite facilities so could be a campsite located on a beach with huts would be OK..

Thanks for your reply!

I suppose Achziv, north of Naharia is a possibility. I don't know much about them, maybe someone else dose.

In Eilat there are no beach bungalows, there are hotels, two very bad hostels, some motel type places, and some locals rent rooms. If you are looking for the lowest price for a room then go to Americana. Rates range from 65-100 per night depending on when and how many travellers you have, this is not for pool view room. I stay there, the food is ok, the day staff is fine, the night guy is not nice. The head of security is American and knows a lot of local bars. This is the only cheaper hotel on North Beach, five minute walk to the beach and they have a pool on site.

Thanks for the information. We have found some cabin style accommodation in Michmoret - does any one know what Michmoret is like? It hardly appears on any maps..

Michmoret is a lovely beach. It is near the main road between Tel Aviv and Haifa. Not far away is a shopping mall. You will love it. I hope the cabins are fine too. Please write a report after your stay there for future reference.

I don't know which hostels you have seen in Eilat. There is a youth hostel that belongs to the youth hostel chain (very nice) and a another one that is part of the Narure Reserve foundation. Both nice, not expensiven.

I don't think you'll find huts by the beach in Eilat, though if you have a tent, you can stay at the south beach. In the Mediteranean Sea you have several options. One of the niceset ones is the Dor/Tantura beach, which offers huts and a great sea shore (with two nice "islands" within swimming distance): http://www.dortantura.co.il/english.htm

the downside here are the relatively high prices.

I saw both hostels, those are the only two in Eilat registered. I would not stay at either. Eight friends went to Eilat, three of us stayed at Americana, the guys stayed at both hostels since they didn't have availability for the whole time. They tried to stay with us because it was the same price and closer to everything.

I thought the IYHA (Israel Youth Hostel Association) hostel at Eilat was fine. IYHA hostels are of very high quality, in my experience.

The beach bungalows that are common in Sinai do not exist in Eilat.
