We're in the process of planning our second trip to Punta and we're having an extremely difficult time booking a hotel for the end of the year. Can someone help? or, should we just use a travel agency like we did on our last trip?

Many thanks.

I forgot to mention we're interested in Mantra, Conrad, Posada do Faro, and Art Las Cumbres. Thanks.

for that time of the year and those hotels is not easy. travel agencies book in advance entire hotels, have you try direct with the hotel (art las cumbres) Reservas.net has very good prices for hotels in uruguay

Galilea, you will have a much better chance if you call each hotel directly. Call, do not email.

i always call directly to the hotels, even in high season, and i never hve a problem.....sometimes the hotels rather sell the rooms themselves, since they make less money by doing it though travel agencies.

I'm planning my first trip to Punta del Este and am also trying to find a hotel. Mantra looks great, but I'm confused as to where it is. Is La Barra close to Punta del Este? I just don't want to be too far away from all the action... Thanks!

Shelberrie, The Punta "area" spreads over almost 40 miles of coastline. La Barra is about 8 miles along the coast from the peninsula of Punta del Este, which is the "downtown" of the entire area. La Barra is the center of "action" in late December through very early February (the "season") for the teenagers (in certain areas) and the young adults (in the clubs and bars). There's also "action" around the port on the peninsula (more clubs and bars, slightly older crowd, usually).

Mantra is actually just outside La Barra, maybe 1-2 miles from the center of the action there.

If you want to really experience Punta, you'll need access to a car, anyway, so Mantra's location is just fine.

Although Mantra is very well located, I strongly recommend renting a car in Punta.
