Any comments about location convenience to walk around, rooms, service? We have to choose between Movenpick and Basma but it seems to me that being on an island will not be convenient. Any thoughts? Thanks

I haven't stayed at the Basma but I know it's supposed to be very nice. I have stayed at the Movenpick and it was great, beautiful rooms, very pleasant staff and fantastic views!

I thought they same as you about staying on an island but it's really convenient actually- nice and quiet but you reach "mainland" within a minute or two and the little boat that takes you is there 24/7 so there is no worries about being stranded!!

I agree about the Movenpick. The location is breathtaking, the new rooms have been renovated 'Nubian style' and like Moham says, it's not inconvenient at all. The ferry runs frequently and I've even had it turn back to get me because it was late at night and they hadn't gotten that far across.

Would defintely go with the Mov.

We were booked in at the Corniche - big mistake!!!!!! We only stayed there one night and Waleed from Aswan Individual arranged to book us into the Basma. What a difference!!!! Its a really lovely hotel, with great rooms and as we were at the top of the hill overlooking the Nile, we had great daytime and night views over Aswan. There is a shuttle bus that takes you into Aswan free of charge though if you miss it taxis are really not that expensive.

We stayed in Movenpick in Luxor and found that equally as good as Basma, so guess that the choice is yours!

The boats run on demand from the mainland to the Movenpick, and we were delighted with our stay there.

The rooms are comfortable, the pool is large and clean, staff are attentive and the breakfast is excellent.

I know the tower is ugly, but the views are breathtaking and you can enjoy the afternoon tea buffet for LE50 at the same time!

We will be back next year.

I have stayed in both. It partly depends on the price. The Basma has everything but is less luxurious, so would be a good buy at a cheaper rate.

Being on an island is not a problem.
