Hi babaMaldives,

Where are you going to be travelling from (i.e. where are you planning on being the majority of your vacation in Kenya?) I assume you are not travelling all the way from Canada for one day! Why only one day on safari?

What were you hoping to see on your safari? How were you planning on getting to the safari location, plane or over land? This could help others on what advice to give you.

I have been to both Lake Nakuru and Amboseli and both are nice locations for different reasons. But it maybe that a safari in another location maybe more suitable for you depending on all of the above.

Can you give us more information so we can give you more help?

Amboseli is also too far from Nairobi for a day trip if traveling by road.

All I would say is dont go to Amboselli to see the Flamingos and dont go to L Nakuru to see the elephants ;)

Personally I wanted to include Amboselli for the eles and the view of Mt Kilimanjaro. But I shall get elephants at the Mara and Jackie wanted to see the Flamingo spectacle so that decided it.

Wish you had more time. Have visited both and would choose Amboseli. Lake Nakuru is beautiful, but just worth the stop. Amboseli is worth a visit.Beautiful and interesting. Totally different!

For Amboseli one day is to short, with the new road you will be able to visit the Lake Nakuru National Park within one Day (even so it will be a long day)

You have to lave as early as possible (by 05.00 am or 05.30 am) to avoid to get stuck in the trafic from Nairobi.

Lake Nakuru is famous for its Flamingos, Rhinos and nice Wildlife.

Enjoy your trip and try ext time to have more time one day is tooo short.

Kenya is great

would prefer you just a day trip to Nakuru instead of Amboseli..though its 50-50 in Nakuru u will see rhinos and flamingoes bt no elephant---In amboseli u will see elephants and mt kilimanjaro..my pick go to Nakuru.

You are really missing out by not going to Masai Mara. To make up for it I would see Amboseli. You will get to see the the breath taking Mt. Kilimanjaro as well as many many wildlife animals that you would see in Masai Mara. Lake Narku was beautiful and seeing the flamingos was cool but I could of lived without it.

The OP indicates only 1/day available.

Yes the Masai Mara and Amboseli are great, but difficult to visit with only 1/day.

Even if by air, to Mara, flight departs NBO 10am, arrives 11am. Return flight departs 4pm, arrives NBO 5pm. That's a hefty price to pay for 4+/hrs game drive once you add in the guide/vehicle (from some camp or lodge), game drive and a lunch.

For Amboseli, even more difficult to fly, flight departs NBO 8am and returns before 9am. Next flight is following morning, so an overnight is required. If driving, it's 4/hrs to and 4/hrs from... another crazy and hectic day.

Lake Nakuru is closest, easiest and least expensive.

I agree with the other posts-Amboseli too far and expensive for one day. Lake Nakuru would be your best choice, the drive down would give you a good view of the Rift valley. The flamingoes and the rest of the wildlife at the park will guarantee a great day.The good road ensures a quick ride and even if late, it is pretty safe.To be in Nakuru in good time- you need to have an early start.

I so agree with the thoughts of Sylviarose, Masai or Amboseli. Is there any way to reconstruct your trip to include one of these and leave something else out for this visit? It would be a shame to miss both of these great destinations.
