Hi All

We are going to be in Singapore early May and unfortuantely my hsuband and I are pretty heavy smokers, I am battling to find info on where one CAN smoke, I've found where one can't, such as taxi queues and restaruants, malls etc, but wehre can you actually smoke. Can one smoke on a dday trip to sentosa isaldn or the zoo, or in the street etc ?

Many thanks :o)

Sorry, we all have our vices

Bottom line is you can only smake out doors in the open air (Sentosa and the Zoo are fine as long as its the open air attractions and not indoor ones), Only in the balcony of hotels where an ashtray is provided, your private dwelling and in designated portions of resturants (out door). You are not allowed to smoke outdoors where people congregate like a taxi queue.

Pubs can only dedicate 10% of their total space to smokers and it must be outdoors.

If you go to a pub like Muddy Murphys there is a yellow box in which you can stand to have a ciggie.

As said above, the Yellow lines at bars and restaurants indicate smoking areas as do (obviously) ashtrays (or old tin cans) on the tables.

I have now stopped smoking but when I was indulging, I would carry and old metal tabbacco tin with me for the used butts. Littering in S'pore is not done.

Hi again,

Thank you all so much, it isn't quite as bad as I thought, in the sense of I had visions of not being able to smoke anywhere when out and about, do they have roadside coffee shops where one can have a cigarette with a nice coffee or are there not many at all ?

Kind regards and thank to all whom have been kind enought to help me and for the nice link to the Smoking bans page.

Sarah

You can smoke at outdoor area of cafe (Starbuck, coffee bean & etc,). Most cafe or restaurant would have a designated outdoor area where patron can puff away.

If you are not sure, you can alway ask the service pple or indicated you like to be seated in a smoking area.

Cheers

I you like to drink and smoke go for a pub with a big outdoor area

e.g Dubliner, Bungy Bar

If you go to places such as NO5 and other bars in Paranakan Place you will find about 10 smokers all gathered around 1 very small table

Rule number one, if theres a local smoking, join him!

lol, that was how i smoke during a trip to japan.

well regarding buyin a nice ice blend to go with your cigs at starbuck or coffeebean - forget it. the rule is set at such that it only allows 20% of the sitting capacity to be designated as smoking area. which means a typical starbuck would only have 3 - 4 smoking tables which would, normally taken up by local teens hogging, pulling up textbooks and calculators pretending to be studying. laughz

zoo: i dont think u can smoke while walking. but i would stand beside those rubbish bins with the ash trays to smoke.

its not like japan where u can see sign on the ground showing no smoking while walking.

I would not smoke where locals smoke here. Then you would be smoking at illegal places like bus stops and toilets (maybe just men do that?). Locals may be smoking where they think they won't get caught. ;-)
