Hi!

We're staying in Cusco, taking the bus to Ollanta, and then the Vistadome train to MP and then back again in one day. Is this recommended, or would it better for us to stay somewhere closer to MP after our visit?

Thanks!

Well if you dont want to stay in Aguas, then take the train back to Olly, and then either stay there, or continue in a combi to Urubamaba and stay the night there. It is a great little town and cheeper than Olly. It is also the main bus station in the valley, so when you get up the next day, you can easily jump on a bus back to Cusco.

Thank you so much for your tips. It sounds like doing the whole trip (Cusco--Ollanta--MP--Ollanta--Cusco) would be very exhausting, let alone not being able to spend much time in MP. Is that a fair statement? If we were to do it all in one day, would we be short changing our visit to MP?

Well, most people who visit do it one day. We stayed overnight and got to see it for two days and do some hiking on the second day. IMO if you are flying all the way to see MP, i would at least not want to be rushed while i am there.

It all depends on your expectations. If you just want to "see" MP, the all-in-one-day will work. From my perspective, the second day allowed us to experience parts of MP that we could not on the initial visit. Also, MP is much larger and more spread out than pictures represent. Our two teenagers were impressed with the size of the place and very glad that we stayed overnight and had a second day. So it is a personal choice based on your expectations. Enjoy!
