You will find it difficult to walk to all those places in one day. Walking between the fort and library is possible. Take a taxi to other places. I would suggest there is no need to keep the taxi driver with you all day. With 7 in the party you will need two cars. Agree the price before you set off and pay at the end. Try to get some Egyptian pounds to pay the drivers if possible. US dollars are welcome, but you'll need lots of small notes. You'll pay no more than 20 EGP per car for each of the trips between any of the destinations you mention.

I would suggest that you rent a car for the day and that should save you a lot of hassle and gives you a piece of mind. a car rental for the day with a driver would cost you anywhere from 200 - 250 Egyptian pounds. I do this all the time when I visit Cairo or Alex.

Renting a car that comes with a driver sounds like a good idea. Where can I go to find one that from the cruise port or would I just have to negotiate a price with one of the taxis looking for business at the cruise port?

Me personally, I would arrange it in a way that when i arrive to the port i want the driver to be waiting for me holding a signe with my name on it. With time limitation, you really don't want to rescue wasting time finding a taxi(s) with the right price.
