Can anybody give me a reliable tour company to book a tour with in India. I will be in Delhi for 8 days and would like to see the best sites in and around that area. I have looked at several websites but do not know what the best areas to go to would be and which tour companies are the best and most economical. Does anybody have suggestions? I have a budget of $150 per day but will need single occupancy. I am traveling at the end of September. I would have liked to go to Ranthambhore but have been told it is closed at this time. I definitely want to see the Taj Mahal, just because that is what you have to see in India. From there i am open to suggestions, Please help. Thank you

If you have 8 days, I would suggest 2 nights in Delhi, 1 in Agra, 2 in Jaipur and 2 in Udaipur. This is a very standard itinerary and quite popular.

Search for past posts with 'tour operators' and you'll find a zillion posts. There are many operators, most of them provide you with a car and driver and an itinerary of your choice. They will book hotels, arrange flights and trains as well. I prefer mid-sized/smaller companies because they are more personalised. I don't like the large operators, not because they are bad, but because I don't get the kind of service I want. You can pretty much tell the quality of the company from the way they design your tour and how responsive they are on email. It is hard to recommend specific ones without being partisan in some way.

Make sure you get a hotel that you like.

Thanks Deepa,

Would you suggest taking time to visit Srinagar? I am very interested in seeing gardens and such. Would there be enough time to visit places there also, including delhi, agra and jaipur. I wanted to go to Ranthambhore but have been told it is closed until October 1, so i have to cut that visit out but wanted to see other locations.
