New Kempinski Hotel???? |
Hi I see what you mean . I am having the same difficulty all info seems to have gone from the site. I have made a booking for this hotel through a travel agent. The info was there two weeks ago on the hotel. I have sent a e mail to the kempinski reservations dept with this enquiry so will let you know of the reply. I hope that nothing has gone wrong or going wrong to delay the build or anything like that. It certainly is strange. Julie

I did think it was an ambitious opening programme for the first phase given they hadn't even marked out the footings in April but knowing the rate at which buildings are thrown up, sorry, completed in Thailand I was waiting to be impressed by this site. It may still be just a website glitch.

I am not really sure that it will be ready by Nov 2008. Loads of works still have to be done.

Hi Shooshy61, Alan, and Khaolaker, My reply from Kempinski Hotels Dear Julie, " Unfortunately the property in Khao Lak does not belong anymore to the Kempinski group. We do not have any information of the new owner and the planned opening date." So now i am cheesed off i was really looking forward to the pool access room. I have been to Le Meridien twice and allthough a beautifull hotel i just fancied trying a different hotel.Oh well better get on to the travel agent first thing tomorrow. Julie
So, nothing about what has happened to your reservation or, indeed, whether the resort will be open as scheduled? Very poor for a group of the Kempinski's stature.
Hi I have now cancelled my booking at the Kempinski and will be going to the Le Meridien. As far as i am concerned if the hotel is no longer part of the Kempinski group who have now told me they do not know who the new owner will be or even if my booking is safe. Also the planned opening date is not certain anymore. It is not good enough. I was not even given an explanation. It makes you wonder why and as to the reason Kempinski have pulled out.? Will this ever be the 5 to 6 star resort we have been led to beleive. I am not going to ruin my holiday by taking a chance. So goodbye pool access room but at least i know the LM is deserving of its 5 stars. Julie

I agree Julie. Very poor show. Also bad news for Khao Lak. The Kempinski was supposed to be the star of KL's Platinum Coast. Mind you Le Merdien isn't bad to fall back on, is it?
It seems quite strange if Kempsinski had bought the property and were in the process of developing it that they do not now know who the new owner is? Surely they would have had to sell it on. Perhaps their initial purchase was invalid?
BeelaButterfly, I am glad now that i have changed hotels, as i do know that for Kempinski to pull out it must have been the last resort as their sales people for weeks have been all over the world signing contracts. We will probably never know. It will come back as something else. Obviously it can not now be called The Kempinski Hotel. Also their words " the kempinski hotel no longer belongs to the Kempinski group" does not have to mean they have sold it they could have been taking a lease on it. I for one will be interested in seeing what does happen over the coming months. My travel operator is still waiting for a response so if she gets any news i will pass it on. Julie

As a matter of interest Julie, why don't you give the Sarojin a go if you fancy a change from the Meridian?
