Avoiding Caracas Airport |
|
Hi, we are going to a wedding in December and have managed to book a flight from Miami directly into Barcelona Airport. It is a direct flight, and I wanted to avoid Maiquetia airport at all cost. We used to live in Venezuela many years ago, wondering if the same principals still apply. 1. No gold or diamond jewelery (for safety reasons) 2. Be careful with electronics.. laptop, camera, cell phone. My daughter usually has her Ipod with her everywhere we go, is it okay for her to to use in public? Thanks for your advice and suggestions. |

Hi catira Well, it seems like a bit difficult for you to get a direct flight Miami-BNO (Barcelona), since Maiquetia's airport is the main and almost only Int'l Airport in Vzla. It has been refurnished a few time ago, and now it seems quite good, world-class standard. You could come first Miami-CCS, then transfer from the Int'l to Nat'l airport (just a few meters away through a passway), and there take a plane to Barcelona. The main national airline is Aserca, and these flights works pretty well, with low or none delays most of the time. I've flown this route several times for businesses, and I can tell Maiquetia's both airports are the best of the country by far. Barcelona's Aiport is been refurnished by now, and It's far more services than some years before. Now... Those principal still apply: - No gold or diamond jewelry while being outside at the street. - Be careful with electronics, but using a cellphone or an Ipod in public isn't bad. You just have to be careful and not leave them on a table or something. I hope this helps you! Have a nice trip!

faalvarezg: Thanks for the advice. Guess it's best to be careful with all electronics. I was able to find a flight with Avior from Miami directly into Barcelona. Hope to have a great vacation in Venezuela and eat some of my favorite foods such as "pan de jamon", "tequeños" and a couple of "cachapas"!! Well there goes my diet,,ha ha!

Hi catira, well it's always ok to find a direct flight. Hope that Avior won't give you so much trouble those days!! (well, as you would know you won't find so much traffic at those days, since most of the people goes out to the US instead of coming here. Then you should be flying counter-traffic). December is maybe one of the best months to come!! There are parties all days, thanks to Christmas and New Year, we venezuelans love those days 'cause of all those dishes you said, and the lots of drinks we like to take :) (you know, the alcoholic kind of drinks haha). Have a nice trip, and feel free to ask every doubt you get!

Hello Catira,
Agree with all of faalvarezg comments. Anyways, I would look into different options than Avior, I would not recommend that airline and even less for international flights, but as faalvarezg also said most other options you can find would go trough maiquetia. Regardless, I would look into it.
On a different note, December is a very good time of the year over here. However, you should be extra-careful about thieves because this is also the most crime-ridden time of the year since people have more money than usual on their wallets. Also remember, to not use your credit card at all over here as you'll get the lousy "official" exchange rate.
