I have stayed at neither place and would not do so.

Bwindi Bandas are 'OK' but limited facilities. There are twin and double Bandas as well as dormitory type, but none are "Self contained" as far as I am aware. Nice grounds though and lots of folk do like it there but definitely "Budget" category.

I have seen QE Hostel at Mweya and much the same applies. I have had adverse feedback from those who have stayed there. Some say "Good value" others not so good. Again Budget Grade. Outside showers are cold water only. Again there are no self contained facilities. What do you expect for $15?? Treat yourself to the Mweya Hotel opposite and relish in the difference!

Thanks for the feedback.

I am booking with a tour company, and they are providing the budget accomodation in the price. Do you think I will be able to upgrade on my own accord when I am there if I speak to somebody? Im assuming the lodges and the hostel are both owned by same company as both are called 'mweya', is that right?

Hey Kiddah 1,

The Mweya hostel facility and the mweya safari lodge are owned by different individuals. Hence no possibility of upgrading to the safari lodge as I imagine your travel agency shall have made payment to the hostel before your travel.

A great trip to you and be sure to tell us how it went!!

Like Kate says you won't be able to upgrade (although I doubt the booking have been made yet.)

Mweya Hostel is operated by UWA and the Lodge by Inns of Uganda. But if you do not like the Hostel on arrival the Lodge is just over the way so go in and see if they have a room. Odds are they will. Cost you maybe $120.

Buhoma Bandas are just outside the park gate. There are a few lodges around (Gorilla Forest Camp is way out of your budget but others are OK.) the trick in Africa is if the room IS free they will sell it for what they can get. so bargain hard in a friendly way.
