My husband and I would like to drive down from South GA to view the shuttle launch. I have read that Jetty Park is one of the best viewing locations. If this is so, where exactly in the park would be the best spot? Also, how far in advance should we be in place and what type of crowds should we expect? Are there alternative viewing locations that may not be so well-known but are just as good? We are not looking for anything special. Just a good place to watch the launch. Thanks.

You do realize, of course, that many launches are cancelled "scrubbed" at the last minute, so I would have a plan "B", so if it is scrubbed you wouldn't feel like you wasted a trip (and gas!)

Yes. We will first check before we leave to see if it's on schedule. I do realize it may be scrubbed at the last minute. So, we will have a plan B. Thanks for your feedback!

I recommend Jetty Park. The viewing is great and the park is wonderful. It is right on the ocean at the entrance to the port. There is a long pier that you can walk way out and see the launch. It gets crowded so get here early.
