We have just returned from one of the most wonderful week-end escapes we have ever had. We stayed in The Thurston House in Maitland, Florida which is about 5 minutes away from the heart of Winter Park.

The accommodations in the choices of the three rooms were fabulous. We were in the Hirsh room which had a partial view of Lake Maitland. The bed was extremely comfortable 4 poster bed. When we entered the room, there was soft backroom music on our own portable CD player. There were real roses on the mantel of the non working firplace. However, it could be used with many candles at night. On the pillow, was a large bar of dark chocolate.

The bathroom had a functioning claw footed bathrtub. There was a hair dryer and even magnifying mirror.

The breakfasts were all done with homemade cooking. We enjoyed an oven made soufle one day and homemade pancakes with blueberries the next morning. On the table was a candleabra lit with candles. The owners, Carole and Joe do whatever they can to make you feel you are at home.

The only comment that may be less than great is that we arrived at 3:10 and there was a sign on the front door saying they were getting ready for the check in at 4:00. However, you could sit on their front porch and enjoy the view or swing on a swinging chair. It was worth the wait!
