hi

my wife and i will be in lexington for a couple of days in mid september (1 or 2 nights from 15th)

we are just looking for a little advice on places to stay, we would prefer to be in walking distance of restaurants/bars/nightlife as we are there to enjoy ourselves.

my wife really loves horses, so we were thinking of the big horse museum or maybe a horse farm.

Any recomendations would be greatly appreciated

I would suggest either the Hyatt or Radisson downtown. They each connect with a skywalk so if it's raining you want still walk from one hotel to the other which in turn connects to the convention center. You'll be able to walk to several restaurants (DeSha's etc) as well as experiencing the downtown culture!! You are also only blocks from UK.

If your wife likes horses . . . you will DEFINATELY have to take the horse/carriage ride around downtown. The weather should still be GREAT in Sept.

You will need your car to experience the area. Espeically if your wanting to visit the Kentucky Horse Park. Fortunately . . . all roads lead to downtown. Ha! Ha! Really though . . . the road system in Lexington is pretty much a wagon wheel with all major tributaries leading into downtown.

Hope this helps!!

I would recommend Gratz Park Inn. It's easily within walking distance of several great restaurants. Jonathon's is at the inn and is a fabulous restaurant. Eat in the bar for a cozier atmosphere than the dining room. Gratz park is much smaller than the chain hotels downtown and imo much nicer.

There are several horse farm tour companies. Well worth the time and money to do one of these. Also you might consider breakfast at Keeneland. While the races won't be running in Sept they do practice every day. You can eat breakfast and watch them work the horses.

If you are here on Sept 18 there is a Gallery Hop downtown. www.lexarts.org

You can walk to breakfast at Alfalfa's.

things to do....Woodford Reserve tour is very interesting(bourbon factory)....Cheapside Bar is a fun place with live entertainment and good bar food. Transylvania University is the 16th oldest college in the USA and is very nice to walk around. Kentucky horse park and maybe a day at the races ( if they are running). i would agree stay at the Hyatt or Radison and walk around downtown Lexington.

Just something to consider if you have not made your reservation... The Hyatt is under renovation. If I were you I would specify that I wanted a renovated room. Also, I am not sure how much guests are disturbed by the construction. Personally, I would stay at Gratz Park Inn. It has been recently updated and is in walking distance from good restaurants/ bars on Limestone like Mia's, Giacomo's, Bistro 147, A la Lucie, Le Deauville, Atomic Cafe, Molly Brookes Irish Bar, and for coffee Third Street Coffee. There is also a cool shop close by called Mulberry and Lime that you should check out. I would also highly suggest to check out the Gallery Hop as mentioned before if you are here.

You can check some of the recent threads also for advice. You can choose to visit an individual farm on your own. Three Chimney's is one I would reccommend. There is no charge, but you should give a nice tip to the guide.
