I was wondering if anyone could tell me what to how long to plan driving from Hyannis to Gloucester? We would be leaving Hyannis around 9AM on Monday, July 21st. Google maps says about 2 hours, but I was wondering how summer traffic in the cape and weekday morning traffic in Boston might affect that.

I think that you should be able to do it in a little over 2 hours (maybe allow 2 hours and 20 minutes) as long as there isn't an accident slowing traffic. If you leave Hyannis at 9:00, morning rush hour will be almost finished on Cape Cod and completely finished by the time you get to the outskirts of Boston. Traffic through the city is likely to be heavy but moving steadily. Once you get north of Boston, you should have pretty clear sailing, unless, of course, there has been an accident.

Traffic starts to ease out in Boston by 10:00 a.m.

Do you have the route all layed out?

I agree with the Google Maps route, by the way.

I haven't mapped it out yet. I will probably do that right before I leave or I may get navigation in the car I rent. Since I am going to be driving to all different places, it probably makes sense to do that this trip.

It's pretty simple.

Get on Rt 6, which becomes rt 3, to 93 N.

Go through Boston on 93N and continue N on 93.

Get onto 95/128 North and

where 128 splits from 95, continue straight on 128.

128 brings you into Gloucester.

You know you're almost there when you cross the bridge over the Annisquam River.

The locals traditionally don't like having to go "over the bridge" (into the rest of the world) much.

If you have at least two people in your car and you get to the High-Occupancy-Vehihle (HOV) lane on 93 North before 10, you'll be able to use it ... enter on the LEFT.

Tcant's directions are the way to go. This will put you over our new Zakim Bridge. When I ours I mean yours as well. Your tax dollars paid for it as well.

Looking to your right on the bridge will give you a nice view of The Bunker Hill Monument.
