Hi everyone. Is two hours enough time to visit Plimouth Plantation? We would be arriving around 3:45PM and were wondering if we could see enough by 5PM when it closes. We don't need to see everything and do every craft, just get a good feel for the place and walk around and get some photos. It doesn't look that big, but maybe there is more to it than I thought.

Well, you could say that about any place on earth really, a quick run through- yes you could, it just depends on what your interests are. I just wonder why you have such a tight schedule that you plan to arrive around 3:45- are you on some kind of strange tour that would put you at a major tourist site with exactly 1 hour and 15 min till closing? Is it really worth going if you only want to stay an hour? Just buy postcards! Its not cheap to visit for one hour (unles you posted your timing wrong). I may be misinterpreting things here but I always worry about people coming to visit a place just long enough to take pictures, seems like a waste and it doesn't mean you were really there to enjoy what there is to enjoy.

Where is your final destination? There are other "live museums" in New England that you might be a able to enjoy for a longer amount of time. If you only have 75 minutes to tour Plymouth than I would recommend walking around the harbor area take an external picture of the Mayflower and go by the Jenny Grist. There is also a fascinating cemetery, Burial Hill, that is worth a walk by.

Thanks all. I think we are just going to skip Plimouth. We had a few days in Boston before and I think we will get a lot of history there. We have a tight schedule this day in particular due to our trip mainly being a college tour. I figured we could stop at Plimouth in between our drive from Boston to Providence. Our tour of Boston College doesn't end until 2PM so I figured we might be able to stop at Plimouth, but I think the family will crash if we go there. I think I would rather just enjoy the evening in Providence.

Thanks so much!

Sounds like a good plan and when your child attends a New England college you can come back and do your visit to Plimoth Plantation justice. Best of luck!

Good decision, Providence is wonderful. Try going to Waterfire.org to see if your trip coincides with one of the Waterfire festivals in Providence- its a great outdoor evening (free!) event. I personally think that Prov is grossly under-rated as a vacation spot, its really pretty decent, a great strolling city with fantastic restaurants, great architecture (talk about old historical buildings!)- you can't go wrong!

For future reference, when you DO come back to visit Plymouth....

At the Plantation plan on spending 2-3 hours at least. There's lots to see there. Also, if you decide to go onboard the Mayflower (which can be included in your Plantation ticket at a savings) allow another 45 minutes or so for the ship.

Both sites are well worth the time though! :)

Thanks for the additional advice. I do wish we had more time to do everything but we literally decided to do this trip two weeks ago!!! We called United, who I have airline miles with, and were able to get all 5 tickets for the super saver amount, but the con was we had about 2 days less than what would have been ideal. The college tours eat up a ton of time also. We are going to have plenty of time to get all the main central Boston sights in though.

I hope we can go back and visit the Plymouth area!

I checked Waterfire for our dates and it won't be going that night:( I've heard it is amazing. Any restaurants that are really good or a "must do" in Providence?
