My husband and I went to Biloxi for our honeymoon and went again two years later, but it was all before Katrina. I now have the chance to take a girl's trip back. Because gas is so expensive, we are just going to go as cheap as possible when it comes to eating and doing anything extra. I have us two nights booked at the Isle of Capri, which I found at a reasonable rate. I was trying to get an idea of what we would spend on food. I figure we will try to eat seafood at least one night - how is the seafood buffet at the Isle? How expensive is it? Is their breakfast buffet affordable? Any recommendations for affordable food? We just plan on spending as much time as possible at the beach (and in the hotel pool).

Jenny - when will you be going? We'll be going next week for 3 nights, so I'll have a better idea on costs, etc. when we get back... I'll post a TR. We're planning on Mary Mahoney's one night, but just kind of winging it the rest of the time. We'll be staying at the Beau, but plan on visiting all the rest of the casinos as well.

We haven't been since pre-Katrina...we've been a little leery, but I'm really looking forward to our trip.

Hi Jenn,

Just got back from a trip at the end of May. If you check out my trip report I listed prices of buffets we went to. We did the relatively cheap route on food and spent more on the slots. The Isle has nice looking rooms and I should be getting around to posting a review on it this week. There were several "all girl's trips" going on the weekend went you're going to have so much fun!

The Isle of Capri is a good choice for folks on a budget. It's the oldest casino hotel (iirc) and some of the rooms are getting a little "tired" but it's an excellent bargain and a good location on the beach.

It looks like the Isle buffet (Calypso's) is pretty cheap right now - but it says it's only for a limited time. When are you going?

isleofcapricasinos.com/biloxi/dining-calypso…

Special for a limited time only, lunch $7.00* and dinner $11.00*

Breakfast, $5.99!

Daily, 7:00am – 10:30am

Lunch, $7.00* limited time only!

Daily, 11:00am – 3:30pm

Dinner, $11.00* limited time only!

Sunday – Thursday, 4:00pm – 10:00pm

Friday & Saturday, 4:00pm – 11:00pm

For other "affordable" food, there is a 24-hour diner at the Hard Rock that offers diner style food. Sandwiches, hamburgers, etc. (I'm not talking about the Hard Rock Cafe - that's not that cheap! The 24/7 diner is located at the back of the casino.)

We are supposed to be going July 17-20. Are there any fast food type places around the beach area? When we were there before I remember that we had a hard time finding a lot of chain resturants. Of course I LOVE eating the local favorites.

Most of the cheaper places on the beach no longer exist, unfortunately. :( (There is a Waffle House, though! Actually, more than one, iirc.)

If you want fast food and chains, the best place to go is the intersection of 110 with I-10, a couple of miles north of the beach. There are shopping centers with fast food places and cheap chains galore.

When we were down in Biloxi a couple of weeks ago, we noticed a McDonald's across from Hard Rock and Beau Rivage. Also, lots of Waffle House restaurants. We stayed at Isle of Capri for the first time since Katrina and loved it. We used to stay at Quality Inn-Emerald Beach, but it is gone. Isle of Capri also has Tradewinds Marketplace if you want to grab a personal pizza, sandwich, or Chinese food in a food court type area. It was okay, but a little pricey. They have a nice pool at Capri, too. Hope you have fun.

I've started checking the Biloxi forum lately since we are staying one night on our drive back home from Florida, so I am curious if anyone has stayed or knows someone who has stayed recently at the Palace? We've always stayed at IP but got a better deal then wondered if that was a wise decision? Thank you for any opinions!

Try something different. We were down there over Memorial Day weekend and went to the post-Katrina, newly rebuilt version of the Blowfly Inn in Gulfport. Great, affordable seafood. They have a nice deck overlooking the bayou. Take 90 west to Cowan-Lorraine Road and take a right. Make a left at Pass Road, then a quick right onto Washington. Washington dead ends at the Blowfly. If you want local, this is it.

I'm headed down on Sunday. I just printed an online coupon for Buy 1 Get 1 Free buffet at Isle of Capri. There were also some other coupons there.

What do you guys think about McElroy's on the Bayou? I happened to run across it when I was looking at resturants.
