Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of the Rogue's Harbor Inn? I was considering staying there for a couple of nights in July and wondered if there is anything (positive or negative) I should know about it.

Thanks

PAman

Great question. I've looked into the Inn as well for a stay this summer. Looks fun, but wondered if I'd be able to get any sleep at night. Hmm...hope others have been there and can fill us in. Since I didn't get much advice on inexpensive places to stay in that area for the summer (cause they just don't exist), we are staying at the Homewood Suites in Ithaca. Although I did think that the McLellan House in Trumansburg looked quite interesting, and the town itself looked like a nice smaller version of Ithaca, perhaps a little more Bohemian. Good Luck to you.

Thanks for your response. The Homewood Suites look like a good value if you need the kitchen. Last time in Ithaca I stayed at the Inn on Columbia - actually, it was one of its outbuildings, a former garage converted into a cottage. Nice and private, and close enough to downtown to walk, which was convenient. I'm considering the Inn @ City Lights - seems like a friendly relaxed B&B. Maybe a native will provide some info on Rogue's Harbor before I make reservations.

I have never stayed there but can tell you that it an attractive older building that is actually in Lansing (8 miles north) at the corner of two state routes. There is a co-located restaurant and pub and a small coffee shop nexr door as well. It is situated on the wine trail and is quite close to Cayuga Lake (not sure if there are views from any of the rooms).

Thanks for the info. That's all I need to know. I'm a light sleeper so I cross that one off the list!

Thanks again.

Friends stayed at City Lights last year and did not care for it at all.

I do like the food at Rogue's Harbor, but agree that it might be quite noisy if you have a room facing the road (it is on a busy corner). There are no lake views from Rogue's.

I've stayed there twice - Sept 07 and Jan 08 - and had wonderful experiences both times. It is on the corner of two highways, and there are trucks going by, but I never had any issues with them keeping me awake or waking me up in the night/early morning.

The innkeeper is very friendly and accommodating (we had to change our check in date at very last minute because my car died on the other side of the state). She has wonderful customer service.

It's a neat building full of character. Character as in the floors aren't quite level kind of thing. I've stayed in Rooms 2 (private bathroom) and 3 (no private bathroom). I would recommend the getting a room with a private bathroom since the shower in the communal one is very tight-fitting and it took a good 3 minutes for the water to warm up enough to step in. All bath products are provided, which is nice. And she makes it a point to be green (if that's important to you). She also provided us with a playpen for our daughter to sleep in the one time I had her with me (I don't know if this is pertinent to you).

The breakfast is very basic - scones, biscotti, cereal, fruit, hard boiled eggs, tea, coffee, juice. No complaints there from me.

I ate at the attached restaurant both times for dinner, and the food and service were great both times. From the menu, they try to source everything locally, or at most w/in NY state. The mixed berry crumble for dessert is heavenly, if you want a recommendation for that.

Any future times I go to the area, I plan on staying at Rogue Harbor. My sister goes to Wells, and while it's not insanely close, it's close enough. The only other accommodations that are similarly priced are the chain hotels in Auburn (which don't include breakfast and about the same length of time for a drive, maybe a little bit longer). And the only b&b in Aurora is too expensive.

I THOUGHT I looked for posts about this place before we went and found none, but now I see this.

Anyway, we just stayed there last week for 2 weeknites. It is a very very pretty place- very comfortable and gracious, and a pretty popular(but not crazy busy..just seems popular) restaurant/bar.

We were totally unprepared for the road noise. We did hear it- we fell asleep easily but it seemed to start up around 5 or 6 am. It wasn't terrible, but it was definite and it was kind of unexpected as the area just seems so quiet and pretty and peaceful. I would probably still stay there again (it was really comfortable and the breakfast was nice as well).. but would specify one of the rooms possibly over the parking lot (which is pretty quiet).

The restaurant was really nice and the place is decorated really well also.(The website does represent it very well)
