Hi,

I'll be on a business trip to the US in the end of September and I thought I could have a stopover in New York. I'm planning to stay for two nights and have one full day for sightseeing. I can arrive either at Newark or JFK. I don't want to spend a fortune for a hotel so I decided to fly to JFK and stay somewhere around Long Island CIty / Woodside - La Quinta Inn Queens or Howard Johnson Express Queens. It should be easy enough to get there from JFK and the hotels are close to most of the 'must see' sights.

Does this plan sound reasonable? Or maybe another area is better to stay? Or maybe I should fly to Newark and stay there (it's cheaper, but I'm worried, I'll spend a lot of time travelling to the centre)?

Any advice will be helpful.

Cheers

hi, i am also trying to book a hotel room in the end of September. I can't really give you a credible answer to your question because i am going to nyc for the first time, but i have been looking at the quality inn in long island city and it sounds good as well. From its reviews it says its brand new. But I am not sure if i should book there. Do you know if it is a good hotel? it is easy to get to manhattan from there?

Hi Maurice

I didn't get any other answers and decided to go for Howard Johnson. I've never been to NYC before, so don't know about the hotel, but at least it's easy to get to Manhattan - it's a few underground stations away,

Cheers

Hi,

You'll probably get more responses if you post this on the NYC forum. It is busier.

Plus, in the FAQ "sticky" at the top of the NYC forum is a link on this very topic. Hope it helps!

GET OFF THE ISLAND - LODGING OUTSIDE MANHATTAN: Is it possible to find clean, safe, affordable lodging outside Manhattan? Yes, even with some trade-offs, you can find lodging in Queens, New Jersey and Brooklyn.
