On the upcoming Labor Day weekend, we are getting together with friends. They live in Plainview, Long Island, New York and we live just outside Boston on the west. The problem is that neither of us wants to drive the entire distance to the other's home on that particular weekend. The distance between homes is approximately 218 miles.

Therefore, my question is this: does anyone know of a location roughtly 100 miles or so which would be about equidistant between the two locations that has nice places to stay, interesting things to do and good restaurants?

I know it might be a tall order to come up with something, but I'm hoping that the readers on this board will have some ideas.
