What are good hotels near the good areas of Charleston.

For one person, for under $130 a night.

Whats better area to be in? Historic area or beach?

Suggestions please?

Someone just reported getting the Mills House on (I believe) priceline for 79 dollars. I don't remember the date, though. That would be a "jump on it with both feet" kind of deal.

If you have a car and you come in the summer, I'd try to stay near the beach. If you're at a nearby beach like IOP you'll be just minutes from the historic district anyway. This answer though really will vary based on the types of things you want to do and how long you'll be here. At the beach itself, it is difficult to get summer lodging in increments shorter than 7 days. In Mt. Pleasant hotels, it is possible but you'll not be ON the beach. I'd recommend Wild Dunes for shorter stays but a "single" might be bored there - you might be much happier in a B&B for example in the Historic District. Let us know your "style" = what types of vacations have made you happy in the past.

The type of travel I enjoy is going to town or city to explore downtown areas. Historical buildings, museums, sightseeing. As well I like being active, and do abit places to chill out.

I like exploring new places etc. I am not a huge beach person, however I do enjoy to walk on a good one and the area is nice. As well entertainment areas.

Then the city seems perfect for you - try one of the hotel discounters for a good deal, esp if you're here during the week.

Where's Thunder Bay?

Thunder Bay is in Canada. province of ontario.

Thinking of driving from Tbay to Minneapolis and fly from MN to SC. I would like to stay in Charleston. Looks like more for me to see there.

However I do want to do a day trip or so to see Myrtle Beach.

Whats my transportation options.

What locations of Charleston u recommend best to stay in for being close to the sights?

Thanks

Well, in the city you won't need a car at all. If you rent a car for a day you can drive up to Myrtle Beach - I don't know what you're expecting - it's more of a "family with a lot of kids" kind of place, but Brookgreen Gardens is nice to visit south of MB. With a car it's also easier to visit our plantations, but you can get there by shuttle bus as well.

To get from the city to the area beaches, it is possible to use Carta (www.ridecarta.com) which is the bus system. However, it would involve taking one bus to Patriot's Point in Mt. Pleasant and then arranging for a shuttle (it's only $2) to take you to the beach. The odd thing is, they'll take you wherever you want to go (I'd recommend you ask them to drop you off at Poe's Tavern on Sullivan's Island) and then you tell them what time you want them to pick you up again. (Some bus service, eh?) The phone number is on the www.ridecarta.com site - it should be arranged the day ahead for assurance that they'll be there for you.
