Pet Friendly Hotel on the Beach or close to Beach |

Looking for recommendations for a pet friendly place. We have a 7 pound toy poodle. I wondered how the Comfort Inn is across from Coligny Beach? TIA

Moe: you have not said what your budget is, but the Comfort Inn leaves a lot to be desired. Friends of our stayed there a year ago March. They were doing their trip "on the cheap" while we split the rent of a beautiful North Forest Beach house with another family. Needless to say, when they came over for dinner one night, they did not talk about their accomodations only to say that they were "okay". As a Canadian, I find it difficult to get used to the idea of pets in hotel rooms. That is just not something many of us do. That being said, I know the Westin Resort is pet friendly and so is the Hilton Oceanfront. As for the Comfort Inn, that end of the island is nice, near Colingy et al. A good place to compare prices for hotels is bookingbuddy.com D in Muskoka.

We stayed in the Comfort Inn once when our visit overlapped our condo rental stay. It was moldy and had no comforts! I wouldn't recommend it and would never stay there again. I would recommend not bringing your dog as they aren't welcomed at the pools or on the beach. You will have more options w/o a pet.

We were in Hilton Head June 21-28, stayed in a house in Palmetto Dunes on Brigatine. It was not pet-friendly and there are not a lot of places on HH that are. We took our Bostons with us and boarded them at Evergreen Pet Lodge there on the island. We were able to go see them anytime we wanted during business hours. The one time we did pick them up and taook out for the morning, by the time we got back to the kennel they were so hot and tired they never looked back at us as they ran to their kennels, LOL!So this could be an alternative for you, and open yourself up to many more rental situations. Regardless, have a great time and I wish I were going back next week!!

There are basically two reasons why pet friendly is hard to come by. Many of our visitors come from the midwest and north. Here in the south animals can pick up the Heart Worm parasite from flea or mosquito bites, especially in the summer. It's fairly simple to apply a medical solution which prevents this, but people who aren't aware fail to do so. Heartworm will greatly alter the lifespan of your pet. The other problem is Fleas. Again visitors do not realize that sand fleas will jump off a pet and breed in areas like rugs and upholstery. An infested villa or home can not be rented until the area has been fumigated. Hey Moe, I know when I was looking for a place for our family and pup I liked the Westin and the Hilton both oceanfront and are pet friendly. We weren't able to make it to HH this year but would have definatlely stayed at one of the two for the convenience of having our pup welcomed.

There are lots of pet friendly condos on VRBO.COM. We have rented several pet friendly accomodations thru this website in HH and other cities. Most will only rent Saturday to Saturday during the summer months.
