Hi - Me again. Still trying to figure out if Culebra will be a good fit for us for a vacation in January.

I keep reading about the roosters crowing all night, etc. I like animals a lot, but I can see how that could be annoying on a short vacation (we wouldn't really have a chance to get used to it and drown it out).

Is there anywhere on the island where the roosters are less prevalent? Or are they everywhere? Are they near the beach at Flamenco?

Thanks again!

Chickens are a staple in PR. They are everywhere. You will get used to it. They quite down a lot at night. But they are up with the sun.

Just came back from Culebra. Slept all night with windows open at Villa Fulladosa.

I don't think it is as bad as you are reading. I was disappointed myself that I didn't hear any of them crow for me the two mornings I was there.

Agree, Sorry I was thinking of Vieques. But even there it is not real bad.

plumboy,

Do not miss Culebra because of roosters. Earplugs work very well, I always travel with them and they keep out the rooster noise. I forget the brand, but they are blue or yellow foam, purchased in a drug store.

I also love to hear the roosters on PR, but I use the earplugs if they bother me.

Thanks everyone. I do use earplugs, by the way (my favorite brand is Hearos - get it?). My partner snores, so I'm forced to wear them. But, he doesn't like them and won't wear them - so I was just a bit worried about whether or not he'd be continually woken up by the roosters. I don't want to get blamed for dragging him off to a noisy island! Going to Culebra is my idea, so I have to be careful!

But, I'm sure the rooster noise is worth the beauty of the island - this is what I'm counting on anyway.

Thanks again...
