My husband just got a job in Milwaukee. We move the beginning of August. I do not want to live in Milwaukee so please reply with some great things about Milwaukee and why it's a great place to live. Also where is it unsafe or safe to live? If you of fun things to do in Milwaukee that would be great too!

Where in Milwaukee is your husband going to be working (if you dont mind me asking)? Then maybe we can help you more.

Do you like to be in the city or a little bit more away from it?

Are you going to be buying a house/condo or renting something when you first move here.

Here is a web site for homes/condos of all sorts of areas.

It's a nice city. Very liveable and very ethnic. the downtown is undergoing a revival. Outlying burbs like Brookfield are nice. You can live on the shore also. Great zoo and Art Museum. Harley Davidson is opening a museum. there's a brand new Jewish museum. Lots of nearby activities on the lakes ans water. Madison is a great city 75 miles away. Door county 2 hrs north is known as the cape cod of the midwest with quaint B and Bs and water everywhere.Lake

Geneva is nearby with lake activities and hotels. Chicago is a 1 hr train ride away. Home is what you make it. I have lived all over the eastern half of the US. The people of Wisconsin are genuinely nice folks who are live and let live, love the outdoors, beer and fish frys.

Born there, and some relatives still live there. Summer ethnic festivals, nice lakefront, extensive parks and bike/ped trails systems, hip Third Ave. bars/restaurants/shops, great German and Polish cooking (and a fave restaurant is Serbian-- Three Brothers), "new ethnic wave" cooking (Mideast, Mexican, etc.) at restaurants, great neighborhood bars, Mitchell Park Conservatory (the "Domes"), Brewers baseball, short drives to great regional parks and trails, lakefront beaches, Packer fever on Sundays, "Cream City brick" buildings, frozen custard (higher-fat ice cream) stands, Milwaukee zoo, speed skating oval. And, if you must, Chicago is not a far drive. Even better, 2-4 hr drive gets you to nice farm country or the north woods.

Some areas of town are rough, but revitalization / reuse has begun of some old industrial areas and bad neighborhoods. I personally like some sections of Wauwatosa-- stately brick or rock houses not far from downtown. With just a few highways all funnelling into downtown, commutes from far-flung suburbs/exurbs can drag on.

Your safety question depends on what area you are going to live in - like any fairly large city, Milwaukee has very good areas and some not so good areas. Of course, the area that you choose will largely depend on your budget and what type of dwelling you are looking for (house, condo, apartment, etc.).

There are many areas of Milwaukee that have beautiful old homes with so much character - leaded glass, arched doorways, etc.

One of my favorite things about living in Milwaukee is that we have some of the amenities of a larger city (good restaurants, shopping, etc.) but the traffic is not bad and I can always find parking!

Do you like golfing, there are dozens of courses near and "in"the city. Have lived here my whole life.Good hospitals and healthcare facilities. There are a lot of ethnic neighborhoods and many parks. There are lots of lakes for boating and fishing too.And if you like beer, well there are many microbreweries to satisfy your thirst. The weather is very changeable, which I feel makes it interesting.

Will you be living in Milwaukee or the suburbs? If suburb, which one? Do you have children?

Milwaukee should be a step up from St. Louis, having spent time in both cities. Looking at downtown or suburbs?

The people in Milwaukee are great! People here are truly friendly. Once you settle on a place to live I am sure you will find your neighbors eager to help you with getting to know your new city. Good luck with the move.

Sorry, I just found out where the office is located that my husband will be moving to. It's in Brookfield, WI. We have no children but due to Gas prices, would like to live close to Brookfield, but open to downtown or another area. Any idea on places to live?

There are alot of areas near Brookfield.

Here are some that I can think of off hand.

Sussex, Pewaukee, Waukesha. I think they are about 15 min or so(give or take a few minutes) from the Brookfield area.

About 20-30 min from Brookfield is Richfield/Hubertus, Menomonee Falls, Lannon

I live in Richfield/Hubertus area and it's very nice area to live.

If you need any more info you can send me a pm.

Hope this helps you out.
