I am going to stay at the Hyatt Regency Boston this summer at a standard room of a great rate of 186 with breakfast and discounts at their restaurants. I have researched on the hotel on the website and on TA. However, there are not a lot of candid photos which are pretty recent, the website seems to be extremely outdated (they say they use Neutrogena, but Hyatt uses Portico Spa...), and the reviews don't give a ton of info as in the fine details (in which I really would like to know).

So....What is your opinion of the Hyatt Regency Boston? How are the rooms and furnishings and such? What are some features you liked, and the pros and cons of your stay?

Thanks in advance to all the people on Tripadvisor!

Hi,

Well I haven't stayed there personally so I can't give you an in depth review myself. Obviously you would need to read through the reviews of people who have stayed there on TA and the other sites. I can tell you the building itself was built back in the 80's. It was the Swissotel before Hyatt took it over about 5 years ago. It's very focused towards the business traveler and it's in a good location.

BSA: I have not been here but because you are so nice, I will stop by and check it out.

Before I do, you did say you are all checked in and not going to change your mind?

That's very nice of you Eileen. I've been nice too. Can you swing by DD and grab me a large with cream and two sugars and deliver it to 745 Atlantic Ave? Just kidding of course.

Will: It seems like BSA has been posting for a year.

It is one of the few hotels I have not been in. I have been interested anyway in checking it out.

"it seems like BSA has been posting for a year"

I know BSA, are you always this meticulous of a planner? Actually, it's much better to come here sooner than later.

Eileen, I hope you didn't think I was trying to be a wisea**. I was just joking around.

Even though I live only about 5 miles away, several years ago for a little getaway we did Priceline and stayed at the Hyatt Boston for a night. The room was a bit beat up, but I think they were starting to renovate on planning to renovate.

The service and common areas were fine.

The location is central although not as nice as say, Back Bay. It can be a little quiet around there later at night.

Hi,

We stayed there about a year ago. I liked it a lot…very nice room (not huge), Breakfast was excellent (great Hyatt service). The entrance is a little different (you have to go up a level in the elevator) the location is just OK…no much going on in that area at night (not like years ago when it was the heart of the “zone”). Typical Hyatt, actually I used a Hyatt reward for my stay and I thought they treated us great. Plenty of shopping during the day, at night I would recommend walking up to Silvertone’s Bar and Grill on Bromfield St. There is also and Irish Pub off of Bromfield. Parking cost is huge both at the hotel and right across from it. Great Movie Theater one block away

Will007:

Good info! I did know that the Swissotel used to be the Hyatt (due to the reviews saying that they wanted the Swissotel back and hated the Hyatt). The location seems really good, as it's next to the subway (easy to go through town after purchasing the T Pass). I haven't been disappointed by any Hyatt in the US, so I hope I have a good stay.

I haven't been posting in Boston for a year- about 1/4 of a year, which is typical for planning (doesn't seem really though- rates are finally now going up to catch the breeze of travelers planning late). It's really due to the fact that our child is going to the leadership conference, in which we got notice of a half year ago- so we started planning!

I have been posting and helping other people in other cities though- such as in China, Las Vegas, and Seattle.

Before, I never used the forums to plan a trip (as for I just looked at candid photos in which were updated a lot (as in about a month old or even less!), and the reviews, in which the people staying at that hotel had great reviews (and plus the photos...). However, Boston kind of confused me as in there was a ton of hotels to choose from, and lots of people said each one was good. And- we usually stay at Hyatt, but then online, the reviews were mainly average, and the photos taken had things in them (aka not the perfect condition, but slightly messed up). Lastly, no one ever took pictures of the bathroom and view that they got ( but it should be good anyway). This then came to the decision of using the forum, in which helped me a lot in the decision making process. Thanks to all the help!

Oh- here's your reply to saying I'm meticulous on travel planning. I am really meticulous now due to the fact of my first experience of planning a trip to Catalina Island. I planned it without tripadvisor ( never knew it back then) but using websites which were all not reliable, and ended up sticking 4 people in one room that was only about 200 sq ft- the smallest room available and no place to walk in the entire room!!!. Not great:(. And so now...I carefully research, and every trip has been great! I'm not so meticulous in planning to places I have been though, or when I don't have a choice- you know what you need to do!

Thanks again!

Eileengs2:

You're too nice! :) I'm checked in though, and not changing (the rate I got is just way too good after checking other hotels rates and their rates recently- markup of 100 percent...). Hope you see something intriguing on the way that you'll like! Thank you thank you thank you! I really appreciate it.

Cabinet:

They say they recently renovated, but it seems like around three years ago. Its a good thing that it's quiet at night and not too loud- sometimes you can't sleep due to the noise (but Hyatt usually has good soundproofing- as seen in the Grand Hyatt Seattle and Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego). Back Bay looks more convenient, but since the Hyatt has the T right around the block- it looks like it will also be convenient (besides having to walk to the subway and down the stairs and going through the entrance points...in which we are very used to). Thanks for all the info! It's really useful.

Bos05:

Great insights on the rooms. Interesting entrance. Some people say there aren't safes in the rooms though. We might use our points for a free night stay during our trip (not really sure about it though). Do you still remember any details of the rooms like the look of the room (colors and hue used) and how the bathroom was (the airport Hyatt has a really nice one, but the downtown one no one ever posted a photo (I guess I will after my trip)? Thanks for all the info and your suggestions on restaurants and things to do!

There isn't "view" in this area. Maybe if you are on the upper floors you'll have a decent city view, but from the lower levels, the area is pretty densely developed, you won't see much. As someobody pointed out, there's a parking lot across the street.

I walked through here on my way to the Nutcracker performance last December. The common areas looked great, the casual dining place had an interesting menu. I had hoped to actually have dinner there before the performance but the 8yo's with us couldn't possibly find anything on the menu that was acceptable to them!! So we eneded up at the food court in the Corner Mall. (ugh!)

And lest you think I let my kids get away w/ murder, only one of them was mine and SHE wanted to eat there ... ;)
