I saw a travel channel bit about the Cattlemans Steakhouse. It looks to be a bit out of town. Is it worth the drive? Are reservations needed? What about the rest of the ranch?

It is definitely a bit out of town. It's probably worth it just for the experience assuming you like steaks. You drive out I-10 until exit 49 (Fabens exit) then go north about 5 miles. They say 5 minutes but I think it should take longer if you go the 45 mph speed limit. If you go, expect to wait at least 30-45 minutes for a table. (I've never had reservations and don't even know if they take them but you can call them at (915) 544-3200

and find out.)

We swung by on our way to Big Bend April 5th. Wanted to show it to my wife since I've been talking about going out there since I was there in 76. They've added a bunch of stuff (petting zoo, lake, movie set, wedding chapels, and motel) since then. It's still as popular as ever which I guess says something about the food.

They have a pretty good website: http://www.cattlemansranch.com/
