Hi all

Coming from UK we would like to come to the Madi in 2009, so spending a week in NOLA what date would you say would be the best to arrive to make sure we saw the best of the festival.

Since you spelled it incorrectly twice I'm going to assume you didn't make a typo, offering the gentle correction: Mardi Gras.

Nola.com has a good website, of course it's a bit early now but never too early to line up accomodation!

Some prefer the earlier parade dates when things aren't quite so crazy. Check the link for the dates of things, the 2009 parades are listed.

If you've never been to Mardi Gras, I'd recommend coming for the weekend right before and staying through Lundi Gras and Mardi Gras day at least. These are when the big parades roll through, and even though it'll be crowded, you'll get a great feel for what Mardi Gras is all about.

Many of the best parades are during this time, and you'll get to see the elaborate floats and costumes of the riders. Some of my favorite parades include: Bacchus, Orpheus, Endymion, Zulu and Rex, and you should definitely check these out!

Yes, I think those are good days to visit, especially for a Mardi Gras newbie, and you'll be in town for most of the big parades!

Some hotels offer Mardi Gras packages and/or have minimum night stays during Mardi Gras, so I would check those when you're booking a place.

You should book soon, as hotels fill quickly for Mardi Gras.
