Seattle mid-October and maybe a side trip |
|
My wife and I (about 50) will be in Seattle mid-October. My wife will be in a conference Saturday through Wednesday and I will be a tourist during that time. We visited Seattle during the summer about 20 years ago but have never been north or south of Seattle. We have the ability to stay another week. We are trying to decide whether to stay in Seattle or take a side trip to Victoria/Vancouver area or fly to San Francisco and fly home from there. Or take a side trip elsewhere. Any suggestions for that time of year? |

Can you provide an idea of your interests? Inside, Outside, Both? The list of "Things to Do", by selecting that box to the left, might generate some ideas for you. I assume you will have a car. If so, the national parks, Whidbey Island, San Juan Islands, etc. all beckon. Much has changed in 20 years (e.g., Seattle Art Museum, Seattle Aquarium, Experience Music Project, and more...

We like inside and outside activities. We are impatient with long lines but we do like walking around new cities to get their feel and experience some of the normal tourist sites. We like to eat (especially seafood) and have a beverage where the locals go. We normally don't do museums unless they are must see. We like hiking and wildlife but are probably not in shape to do difficult trails. Twenty years ago we enjoyed Pike Place Market, the Space Needle and a little hiking at Mt Ranier. We normally try to take public transportation in lieu of trying to navigate in a large city but could rent a car if that is the best way to get around. We are from Ohio so your area is unique to us. We were wondering if the weather in mid-October will limit our activities. We have never been north of San Diego on the west coast and were keeping the San Fransico option open. I hope this helps you to help us make our traveling decisions. Thanks in advance for your help.

October sometimes is very nice. Since your a walker Vancouver and Victoria are naturals as they are all best seen by foot. SF you would be assured of better weather. For someone who has never been here in a while I think you'd find plenty to do around here expecially if you drive to Leavenworth and watch the leaves fall or stop by Roslyn the town Northern Exposure was filmed in. I think you'll just have to decide. Our weather is never predictable. Last week it was 50 and gloomy. Today its 87 but forecast to cool off by monday so who knows?
