My boyfriend & I are looking for a nice hotel with a room with a balcony to view the 4th of July fireworks show. We are in our early 30's & would prefer a hotel with a little life & good bar & restaraunt. If there are not hotels with rooms with balconies where you can see fireworks then can you recommend hotels with good balconies within walking distance of a dinner spot to view the shows. Finally, any other suggestions of things to do, bars to visit & great restaraunts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

You could try the Westin--that has balconies. And I think the Marriott Waterfront does also. Most of the nicer downtown hotels don't have balconies though--although the Inn at the Market does have a great view deck for guests (but they're sold out for that weekend).

Not sure about whether any of the Lake Union hotels have balconies but it might be worth looking into (e.g., the Residence Inn and Silver Cloud). Seattle has 2 fireworks displays, one over Elliott Bay (the downtown waterfront), the other over Lk Union.

I'd stay downtown though, personally.

If you end up going the restaurant route, you may want to consider a boat. Argosy (and possibly others) offer fireworks dinner cruises.

consider the Edgewater on the north side. Don't know if they have balconies but you'd have a great view.

Thanks sooo much for all of the responses. I checked the edgewater but they have a 2 night minimum & that would be okay but it seemed a bit over priced. I was thinking maybe I could make a reservation at the restaraunt on the deck...is the food good & can you smoke? Alternately, I was looking into the Hyatt in downtown as well as Bellvue. Are these hyatt's nice? Is there a fireworks show in bellvue and if so how far is bellvue by taxi or rail? Thanks for the above recommendations.

No you can't smoke on restaurant patios (basically not anywhere in public anymore).

The Grand Hyatt is set back aways in downtown Seattle, I'm not sure it would have views.

Bellevue is a 20 mins. drive to the east of Seattle, across one of the two bridges, on the other side of Lake Washington. If seeing one of the two Seattle fireworks shows is the goal, it would not be convenient at all imo.

The Warwick Hotel doesn't have balconies to steop out onto, but rather a full wall of window (sliding doors?) in every room. It's pretty tall so would have good views. You could ask but I'm pretty sure on a high floor on the north side of the building you'd see both (there is one on the Waterfront & an even larger one on Lake Union).

If the reason you want a balcony is to be able to smoke, check with the hotel before you book--many are completely non-smoking including on the balconies.

The Grand Hyatt has very good views from the upper floors--I stayed there recently and it's a really nice hotel. If you can get something on the NW corner high up, you might be able to see both fireworks displays.

The Bellevue Hyatt is tall, relatively unobstructed, so I would imagine you could see fireworks from around the area but rooms do not have balconies, and I don't think it would be that great of a location for your purposes.

Bellevue has it's fireworks/celebration on the 4th in the downtown park.

Good tip about the hotel balconies if your purpose is to smoke. I think most all hotels aer completley non-smoking, rooms, balconies, even within 25 feet of the entrance. As I ready mentioned, there are no restaurants or bar patios, sidewalk tables, outdoor areas either that allow smoking anymore.

I stayed at "The Edgewater" last weekend. Had a balcony over the water but had to upgrade to water side from interior. Worth every penny! Only 4 floors so book early...

Edgewater is also within walking distance of Myrtle Edward's park with the best views of the fireworks, so if you can't spring for a room with a balcony maybe you could book something else and then walk to the park? You could smoke at the park, WA state law says no smoking in indoor public spaces or within 25 feet of a door, window or air intake.
