My husband and I will be in Atlanta next weekend and had wanted to see the aquarium on Sunday morning. But..... I'm getting a sinking feeling that would probably not be a great idea due to crowds. Looks like they have extended their hours for that Monday, so I'm thinking that they are expecting heavy crowds for the weekend.

What do ya'll think?

Go! It is definitely crowded but if you just go with the expectation that the crowds will slow you down and be a bother, then you can get over them and enjoy the aquarium. I just tune them out. This is an amazing experience and I wouldn't let an annoyance get in the way of it. My best advice is to get there right when the aquarium opens Sunday morning. That is by far the least crowded time of the day.

Thank you for your response. We really want to go, but I hate crowds, but maybe it's worth the risk.

We arrive Thrusday evening and are staying at a B&B in the Virginia Highland area - any suggestions on a place to eat? Friday evening attending a Braves game ! Saturday driving out to Stone Mountain and Decatur (art festival), Sunday Aquarium and not sure what after that. Had thought about the underground - but understand more of a tourist trap and dangerous.

We might attend the Jazz Festival Sunday.

by all means go, if you wait until it is NOT crowded, you will be waiting for years --- the good news is that unlike the Tennessee Aquarium where you have to follow the single-file cow line all the way through (getting clogged up or being rushed through), in the GA aquarium you can move back and forth betweent he exhibits, and return to the ones you loved as often as you like. Just make sure to buy your tickets early (not at the gate), and get there early.

FOr dinner in the Virginia Highland area, you've got lots of options. you can just stroll around and see what suits you. Highland Tap and George's have excellent burgers (HT has great brunch too). Murphy's is excellent. Dish is very nice. La Tavola has good Italian. Atkins Park has great bar food. Surin is good for Thai and pretty good for Sushi. You're also close to some really great restaurants - Rathbun's and Shaun's, if you're up for driving.

Hello Texas Rose!

I think it sounds better like that!J is right as well as the other posters ! Get there as early as possible you might even get there before they open and wait .

Take a few biscuits ( unless your a early riser ) some OJ and your set. Its going to be crowded but, this is the best way! Sort of like the song of many years ago " A spoon full of sugar will make the medicine go down!"

Please post your visit there and where ever else you go!

I'm pretty sure the aquarium does not allow visitors to bring in outside food or drink so you'll want to eat before you get there. The cafe there is surprisingly good also, and the prices are reasonable compared to Disney, Six Flags, etc.

Rose,

One of the locals will answer that soon here in NC its been up and down. Cool nights warm days rain we even had some bad tornado's ( I live a little north of Charlotte) .

I think the weather is very similar maybe a little higher humidity and temp.

Maybe if you have time you can go to a Southern Icon Mary Macs Tea Room you may have seen the posts on it.

Another favorite DeKalb County Farmer market they have things that you will say " why do they not have this in Texas?"

Both Texas and Georgia have good southern cooking, but what is considered truly Georgian food?

I'm not in the mood for Haute cuisine, I also don't think you get the true feel of an area with that level of restaurant.

I know that we are planning on attend the Art festival in Decatur on Saturday.
