This weekend in Atlanta |
|
Underground is the antithesis of clubbing. Nobody goes to Underground. The bars there can't stay open because nobody goes to them but tourists and the area is dangerous. You should check out the Virginia-Highland area and Little Five Points for laid-back bars. They're great neighborhoods to just wander around and have a few drinks at whatever place strikes your fancy. If you want to stay on MARTA, I suggest taking it to the North Avenue Station and going to the Spotted Dog. If you haven't seen much of Atlanta, you should really try to get out of downtown at some point. After the business people go home there's hardly anybody but tourists and panhandlers downtown. Downtown shows very little of what Atlanta is like. I suggest going to Piedmont Park, the High Museum, the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the Atlanta History Center, Oakland Cemetery, or just anywhere outside of downtown.

I will definitley look into those areas. I have actually been to Atlanta a gazillion times, so I have visited a lot of the other areas. I work with a college and we travel up there a lot to visit other schools. This is purely a getaway weekend for baseball and fun, so little five points sounds intriguing!

Might check out the concert before the game Saturday. Free Music Festival in Downtown Atlanta Saturday, 3pm - The SoCo Music Experience at Centennial Olympic Park, Saturday May 17, 2008! Enjoy a day on the green with Against Me!, Ghostland Observatory, Supersuckers, Ryan Shaw and Bang Camaro at one of Atlanta’s most exciting free summer festival for people 21 and older. (4-5 blocks from the Ellis Hotel)

Thanks everyone! We ended up not having a huge amount of time. Friday went we went to Gibney's (i think thats the name of it). Nice place. Pretty good pizza. Saturday was just World of Coca Cola and the Aquarium. Saturday night we went to Hard Rock. Touristy, I know, but it was close to the hotel! We wanted to go to Stats, but never made it. Maybe next time.

We just returned from Atlanta and we also stayed at the Ellis, I can't stress enough how important it is to DEMAND a high floor room. The whole street is under construction and the noise started very early everyday. The hotel is beautiful tho, the beds are the best!!! We mostly hung out at the Hard Rock, great service and drinks. Mostly just sat at the bar. A great Irish pub is in the peachtree mall can't remember the name but it was fun, smokey but fun. (We are both 27)
