There's usually a Fireworks show at Woodlawn Lake, and if there's a Missions baseball game they'll have fireworks. Sea World and Fiesta Texas will have special shows and be extra crowded. Several years back we spent a 4th at Schlitterbahn; Comal county had a fireworks display that year, and the view was great from the pools.

like octoboy was alluding to - any activity that involves water is a good idea as it will most definitely be scorching hot outside. another idea is a lazy float down the Comal or Guadalupe River. there are many places to rent from but i like these guys: http://www.toobing.com

with that said, expect the rivers and water parks to be packed with people!

San Antonians love any excuse to party..If you go to any event you must get there early..We usually go to the outskirts of town and buy fireworks, and then throw or go to a BBQ..There are a dozen quality firework display's all over town..As a tourist,I would stay at a high rise Hotel, with a balcony, and enjoy my own private show....

Shooting your own fireworks is fun (if not expensive) but we may not be able to do that this year because of the drought conditions. Hopefully will have some substational rain before July.

Isn't "Freedom Fest" going on at Market Square/Downtown with the arts and crafts, music and HUGE margaritas available?!? I went there back in 2000 and had a blast. Nothing like drinking loads of tequila out in the hot Texas sun! (Just kidding) I did see on the San Antonio CVB website that it's going on the weekend of the 2nd and 3rd of July. Good Luck!

Willie Nelson is having his annual 4th of July picnic at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater. I believe tickets are still available.
